AT&T recently did away with their unlimited data plans. Forcing folks into plans for either 200 MB a month or 2GB a month, with fees if you exceed these caps.
Now Apple, AT&T and IPhone forums are a buzz with many people complaining about unexplained transfers of data occurring between 1AM and 3AM via AT&T's 3G network.
All this data is being billed against your data cap. many people are seeing up to 10MB per night being used and AT&T nor Apple can explain where its going, or why.
iPhone 3GS is sending lots of data on its own!

How about phone viruses that you get in RINGTONES, which use the wee hours of the morning to spread themselves to other phones?

yup. it’s amazing the things that wind up on any device once it’s hooked up to a network - things downloaded, uploaded, processes run all without your knowledge. seriously though, seems like you should have to at least acknowledge the usage (per instance or per condition) before your charged for it.

Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.

I think I'm gonna dump the PDA and use my CB.
that would go over too well for business though :-)

Hopefully, this won’t effect those of us who were grandfathered in on the unlimited data usage contracts.

Oh, but you are just an organic ATM. You don't need to know why, for whom, from where, or how long. You will be notifed of how much.
Yours is not to question why. Yours is but to pay or die.
The good news is, it's only FRNs.

charge of the light wallet brigade. *That* is exceptionally clever.
Knock it off, unless you enjoy the sound of black helicopters hovering silently around your home...
