It would be nice if these execs were as smart as you claim. The trend seems to be to buy into the left’s “causes” and then get led, when politically expedient, like a lamb to slaughter.
What was it Churchill said - “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”
We’ve seen it with the insurance industry, the banking industry, the auto industry and now with BP.
To make matters worse, boener, cantor, and pence blasted Joe Barton for speaking the truth about the shakedown.
They got a nice bit of outrage from me this morning and then I called Barton’s office and thanked him for speaking the truth.
I did not forget that it was not Hayward who said “small people” - I got Svanberg’s title wrong. I hope that finally clears that up. And, according to Svanberg’s people, it was a “slip in translation”. Unfortunate, as it once again calls into question competence. Why not hire a translator who wouldn’t make that kind of mistake at such a crucial time?
Nobody in the corporate world is “buying into” the left’s causes.
They go along because they have figured out a way to make money on the ride.
It is pure self-serving, legal, and the way business quite often is done.
So tell me, when you buy a stock do you hope it doesn’t go up because that would mean someone else sold to you too early and you would have to live with that guilt, or do you smile and give yourself an “attaboy”.......
Life is simple; live it that way.
It wasn’t Tony that made that remark.
Now, I know that BP screwed up on this well, but after what I have seen of Obama’s arrogant incompetence, childish tantrums, miss steps, inaction, bald-faced lies and complete lack of leadership, as well as the grandstanding senators doing their best to destroy Tony, I am on BP’s side on this.
BP caused this horrible event, but Obama’s administration has cause the effects of the spill to increase at least a hundred fold.
Obama and his minions have been more interested in cleaning up his worthless reputation than cleaning up the ficking oil. The Gulf didn’t need political theater....... it needed immediate, focussed and intelligent action from a true leader.... NOT a damn politician/union boss.
I would now have trouble getting upset with BP if they simply packed up and moved on. Frankly, my crystal ball says that Oil Companies will be pulling out of our country before Obama and his libs can break their backs. Are these companies simply waiting for November?
Wow, are YOU naive. You would have the CEO facing a President and Congress that wants to BANKRUPT them make them even more angry by playing a childish “oh ya, well it was Obama’s people that called them little people first!”.
I think the CEO did a wise job of pointing out, in his speech, exactly the message he wanted to make (that it was a response to an accusation). I am sorry 1) he did not wear what he was really saying on his forehead for nonthinkers and 2) he thought it more prudent to blame “translation” than reciting the “oh ya, well the truth is obama said it first”.
Naive must be your middle name.
LOL! I hope so. :)
I don't think you're off base at all. On the Mark Steyn thread (about Obama being the Milli Vanilli president), he said that Obama is becoming the most hated man in Britain because his talking down of BP is ruining British pensioners' retirement funds.
The Chairman of the Board is always the Big Boss..............until he’s fired by The Board/Stockholders.............
Agreed!
“I don’t think you’re off base at all. On the Mark Steyn thread (about Obama being the Milli Vanilli president), he said that Obama is becoming the most hated man in Britain because his talking down of BP is ruining British pensioners’ retirement funds.”
European mixed economies depend on strong corporate contribution, because people need jobs, wages, benefits, etc.
Therefore a German employee wants VW Group to be financially strong and profitable. Same mentality in Britain.
IOW the political left in Europe doesn’t hate corporations.
OTOH it is part of the mantra of the American left to hate corporations; which Obama is doing.
Me too. Hayward looked real depressed.
>>I found myself feeling strangely sorry for him as he sat before congress
Whoa, get a grip on yourself, man.
This is no time to go wobbly!
All I have to say to the whingeing Britishers is
“Hey, England, eat my Florida”
With thanks to Gary Larson and the Far Side.
Oh, don’t worry, swarthyguy, I am still angry with Tony. But I have to say that at this point, I don’t believe that Tony personally wants this oil spewing into the gulf. I thought that our congressmen could have at least given him a moment to speak on that, to be able to express his thoughts, because I do want to hear them.
Let me stress that I am not giving Tony Heyward a pass, but I think that throughout this matter, he has behaved as a gentleman aside from a few regrettable comments. I wish that our congressmen had treated him more respectfully, even down to a point of simply having better manners. I am worried about England being one our closest and most valuable allies. I do not want this absolute, bungling moron Obama, or his administration harming that relationship, even though I do realize that this event in and of itself could stress it even without his help.
Another thing is that want Tony to keep his word on this. I’ve watched his commercials, he gave me his word, but now he’s off. I don’t like it. Bob Dudley is an unknown quantity to me, I think I had gotten used to Mr. Heyward. Tony said he was going to make this right, and I really needed for that to happen. His leaving his position is making me a bit nervous, perhaps I am misreading all of this, I just don’t know.
Hey, at least this time we haven’t overthrown a Prime Minister of a major country to preserve Anglo Persian Petroleum’s profits.
Shakedown continues.
