--snip-- Sometimes, though, boys don't have the luxury of a father, biological or otherwise. There may be no Daddy taking them to the Phillies game. No Grandpa waiting to teach them how to fish. No Uncle expert at hoisting them on his broad shoulders. Not even a much older brother, willing to share his electronic games.
There might be no one, except a group of men who ask only one question, with open arms: Would you like to join?
GENERATIONS of boys have said yes, especially in this City of Brotherly Love. But now they're in trouble and are fighting to stay in their beautiful headquarters on Winter Street, the one they built and have maintained at their own expense for almost a century. The one that allows them to keep helping, keep caring for and keep inspiring those sons-by-proxy.
How fitting that it's happening around Father's Day.

It’s a stupid fight the city has picked.
That's the problem in a nutshell: Homosexuals want to be that "group" - and we can imagine what they mean by "open arms," if we don't mind throwing up. They *don't* want competition from the Boy Scouts of America.
I actually think over great majority of gay people would support The Boy Scouts. It is the pressure groups that want to decimate anybody that disagrees with them.
Do you have any evidence to support that belief?
It is the pressure groups that want to decimate anybody that disagrees with them.
Yes, that's true.
Just two little quibbles with the the article.
Not to create the wrong impression, Boy Scouts is not a support group for kids without dads. Most Scouts have a father who is very active in their kids lives. That being said, Scouts is also a GREAT place for a young men that may not have a male role model in their lives.
Boy Scouts are not “little boys”. They come in as young men and usually leave as fine upstanding men. In the Scouts, I have seen many young men develop into some of the most honest, faithful and toughest men you have ever seen seen. Many have gone on into the military and have done very well.
I am an Eagle Scout, Scouter and avid supporter of BSA.
We dont need Peter Puffers scouting for fresh meat in the Boy Scouts.
It’s just that simple.
It’s interesting that the voices shrieking about the Boy Scouts not allowing gay leaders are the same voices shrieking that the Catholic Church did allow them.
Scouts Ping
The whole issue is really a smoke screen to grab valuable land that the building sits on.Never let a crisis go to waste.

As the proud mom of an Eagle Scout and former Cub Scout Den Mother, I agree with you one hundred percent.
The BSA is under constant assault by the left because they are about the only organization out there that hasn’t bowed at the altar of P.C.
The mere fact that the BSA and its supporters have the audacity to fight the leftists and homo’s angers them to no end and for that, I take a simple amount of pleasure.
The BSA may well end up losing this case and if so, the boys in Philadelphia are the biggest losers. The city appears to be quite oblivious to the potential ramifications of their decision or they plain don’t care as they will force P.C. down the BSA’s throat no matter the cost. (I think it’s the latter)
Notwithstanding the purpose of the Scouting program, Scouting is also a refuge from the daily grind of the world for many boys and it should remain so.
Excellent point!
But if their consciences tell them that there’s nothing wrong with having sex with teenage boys, why would they support the BSA’s right to exclude people who aren’t doing anything wrong?
It’s possible that you’re right, of course. I think the poster who pointed out the value of the land on which the Council’s building sits was on to something too.
