A story surfaces in the local press:
[Then high school senior Brandon] Leslie said he introduced himself to Etheridge and asked him about his stance on a particular education program. He said Etheridge didn't answer his question, so he pressed him two more times.
"And that's when he grabbed me by the shoulders, he shook me, and I'll never forget it, he said, 'Son, you need to learn to respect your elders,'" he said by phone on Wednesday. "I was just so taken aback, I think my jaw just dropped, and he walked off."
Leslie said he was angrier about Etheridge's attitude and "patronizing" tone than the physical contact.
"It wasn't to hurt me, it wasn't to harm me," he says. "It was that he was irritated and wanted to get my attention."
Leslie said the incident caused somewhat of a firestorm at the time, and he was contacted by a few newspapers, but no stories ever appeared
This a-hole needs management training. ANGER management.
Never get between a mean drunk and his next drink.
Someone needs to point out to this jerk that we’re a *representative* republic - as such, elected officials are accountable to the electorate, and at a bare minimum, that means they should be open to the views and the questions of their contituents.
Too many of these petty bullies think of themselves as some sort of domestic nobility, and while most don’t display it as blatantly as Etheridge, it’s clear in their responses at town meetings and such that most have the same attitude (especially those of the donkey persuasion).
Ethridge needs to learn to respect his constituents. Respect for elders, respect for women, etc,,all count for NOTHING when placed against his reposnsibility to show respect for his constituents.
A 19 year old voter should be treated with deep respect by a congressman. If he wants the respect of the 19 year old,, he must earn it. His relationship to a voter should be that of an employee to a boss.
Leslie, a self-described Democrat who "supports the Obama agenda," said watching the video was "almost like looking in a mirror."
This came from an Obamabot.
Newsflash to Bob Etheridge: this isn't medieval Europe and you're not 'royalty'. You're just another hack politician in office far too long (13 years) with a distorted sense of your place on society. Your habit of physically bullying students daring to ask you a question that relates to your supposed job is disgusting. You're a coward.
Etheridge has to go. Enough is enough.
I think Mr. Etheridge has a really big drinking problem.
A high school senior, those two college men younger and shorter than Ethridge — does this jerk have a problem with men his own age and size, too??
Ha! I wonder why? Could it be they have a republican in their sights? Like Joe Barton, maybe? Double standards.
COWARD
Uhm, I guess they did not teach the poor children the right conflict resolution tactics; the part, where you touch me, you wont make it to the next street corner! With that said, the political class is not nobility or part of the Kings court; oh, thats right this guy is part of Democratic Communist Party USA.
Etheridge claims he doesnt drink
i’d love to see him decked by some student he grabs. He needs to respect the citizens he presumably works for.
“...”And that’s when he grabbed me by the shoulders, he shook me, ...”
should have ended with the congress-critter on the ground writhing in pain with either a kick to the cods or a joint locked at 10% passed full extension.
Not to advocate violence, but self defense is self defense.
Ruefully...
