Mr. Charlie has seen the up and downs over the years in the oil patch off Louisiana's coast, but this could be the toughest slump of all.
Earlier this week, the steel rig stationed on the Atchafalaya River graduated what could be one of its last classes of workers prepping for the rigors of offshore life.
President Barack Obama's six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf has sent shudders across the coast's offshore oil industry where no one knows just how extensive or long-lasting the damage to jobs may be.

On the bright side: This should push the unemployment rate above ten percent in time for the election.
How many of the people thrown out of work by this moratorium are going to vote for a Democrat?

As long as these workers are registered Democrats and Union members, there should be no problem getting compensated out of the 20 billion dollar slush fund the administration is going to administer on BP’s behalf...

I just hope they don’t all end up here in Bradford County, PA where we are having a Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling frenzy! There are too many people (men and white trucks) here now! Our quiet county is GONE!! So sad. Not that I am against drilling but it seems so unorganized! There have been a lot of problems with water wells being ruined. (Sorry! That’s supposed to be a big secret!) Our beautiful mountainous area has been invaded! lol

There's $100 million in the compensation fund and with the number of claims that would roll in it won't last a month. As for the $20 billion, I believe it's almost all accounted for in clean-up funds and the EPA fines that will roll in. If BP was to file for bankruptcy the courts would have to rule that the escrow goes back to the creditors. This was stage craft to make Obama look smarter than he is. There's no law preventing BP from pulling the money out of the escrow at any time they wish. Remember, BP is the “Green Energy Company” sent here to bamboozle Americans to think that the Brits know something about how being “Green” and fossil fuels can work together. They are nothing but a bunch of numbnut Obama supporters.

Obama is happy as a lark with the spill , it plays right into his hands. Now if he can just figure a way to make it look like he is concerned, he will be ecstatic.

I empathize with all those who are suffering from the President’s destructive and asinine moratorium, but there is no excuse for these VERY HIGHLY PAID workers to be worried about bills so soon. Why is it that today’s workers eschew saving for a rainy day and refuse to have any kind of nest egg to fall back on? In my opinion, there’s no excuse for people at their income level to be living paycheck to paycheck.

Absolutely! When Hussein’s minions chopped defense projects, my husband’s facility in California had to shut down. We’ve always saved much more than we spent, didn’t buy toys, drive 10-year-old cars, etc. Although it was an emotionally stressful time, we could’ve survived a few years on our savings.
If these people are whining about paying bills already, they need some lessons in personal responsibility, economics, etc. I suppose the Hussein will force BP to bail out the ne’er-do-wells. As always, the responsible ones foot the bill for the losers.

I was unaware they provided people with years of high paychecks before even training them.

Yup. I feel like I've been watching street theater. BP worked with Kerry and funded support of Cap and Trade. Crony Capitalism / Facism / Statism / Globalism at its best.
