Members of the South Carolina Democratic Party's executive committee voted overwhelmingly tonight against holding a new Senate primary, upholding last week's controversial win by unemployed veteran Alvin Greene (D) over former state Rep. Vic Rawl (D).
Rawl, who lost to Greene 59 percent to 41 percent, had brought his case before the committee tonight, but the 61 members present rejected his protest by a five-to-one margin. Rawl said in brief remarks after the committee meeting that he would not appeal the decision. Greene did not attend the meeting, which took place in Columbia and lasted for more than five hours.

I don't buy it. But who knows? Rawls assertion that voters say they tried to vote for him but Greene's name appeared instead on their final ballot also stinks. Who in the world would click the "vote" button instead of calling an elections worker over to fix the problem.
just wondering why do they call alvin green (d) unemployed veteran but vic rawl former state rep. Is Rawl employed?
It was a calculation. Lose one improbably pick up, or risk supressing the black vote which would cost how many more?
it be suicidal for the dem to oust greene and disinfanchise all his voters
I wonder with a win ratio of 59% to 41% what the voter demographics look like in that district.
Too bad the press didn't investigate Obama's background this vigorously!
The dim zeros aren’t done yet. I’ll bet that if it comes down to it, Alvins’ name just won’t be on the ballot, and the zeros will try to blame that on the nutless pubbies, too.
The stench of DC RATs is already gagging most Americans. These slimes don’t want to add more Independents to the growing by the minute total.
Well, that's too bad. Whenever this guy speaks, hilarity often ensues. Can't wait for the debates, if there are any.
A little comon sense on the part of the Deomcrats here. If they shove Green aside for a white Democrat that white Democrat will get almost now black votes in November. It is a humiliation they would not like to see a white Democrat undergo.
It was state-wide.
Someone must’ve pointed ut to them what might happen if they ousted the black guy in favor of their preferd white guy especially when he didn’t have a snowballs chance against DeMint.
I wish the Dhims had been just a little stupider.
Nice find. And very interesting how white and black fail to play into this battle as well. If the SC dems had any sense at all they would have avoided this battle, kept under wraps the instability of the candidate that was nominated and instead promoted him as a war vet. They could have spent a minimal amount of money on a losing campaign and moved past this. Yet they insisted on a national airing of dirty laundry. This makes no sense.
A rat? or a Rove?
Absolutely. You would take almost forty percent of the normal voting public in the state for the Democrats....and they’d just stay home. They wouldn’t vote for anyone. You couldn’t allow that to happen...it’d be a massive loss for every Democrat in the entire state.
I tend to think now...it was simply name recognition that won. Vic Rawl wasn’t really known by the general public in the state. Alvin Greene just sounded ‘better’. If ‘Candy de Light’ had run...she would have beaten either guy.
Can’t wait for the debates, if there are any.

Debating Mr. Greene would be interesting but also very tricky for Sen. DeMint.
Greene isn’t a professional politician, isn’t likely to go in very well prepared, and really doesn’t seem to have many core beliefs. The guy could say virtually anything in a debate, unlike a professional politician.
DeMint would have to think a lot more on his feet to be prepared for any suprise.
It was not a Congressional district. It was the whole state of South Carolina. Greene is running for senator.
This only means that Democrats don’t want to oust him in a democratic way that might backfire. They use some underhanded way instead that doesn’t involve a ballot box.
