The Gulf Oil Spill has at least allowed Obama to make good on one of his campaign promises: he has managed to unite the country, the country is now more united than it has been in years; of course, we are united against the foolish Progressive Agenda of the Clown in Chief. Even the most dedicated Socialists and the most fervent Obama ideologues are realizing that Obama has neither the ability nor the experience to guide a country through this disaster or any other emergency. Rather than seeking solutions to our immediate problems, he is advancing the energy agenda that he has been behind since day one; an energy program that is detrimental to the integrity of our economy and our way of life.
The American people are now ready to rebel at the thought of conical straw hats and black pajamas that Obama has envisioned for America. Once he has crippled our economy and weakened our national energy program by replacing wicked oil with technologies that don't exist on a practical scale, he will be within striking distance of declaring America a Third World Country. Obama's dreams of a supplicating American people begging from their bicycles for the essentials of life from the rest of the world, while he is portrayed as a great visionary who brought this great country to its knees.
Although Obama was raised in a Socialist sewer and mentored in the Socialist and Communist traditions throughout his life, he is oblivious to the fact that, despite the Socialist Indoctrination of our Public School Systems, the idea of International Socialism is abhorrent to most Americans and is not part of the American psyche.

You have a point, but unfortunately in this instance he has the unwelcome distinction of actually being right. The fact of the matter is that no time in the history of oil production/drilling has their ever been a leak of this magnitude. We now dwarf what was spilled in the Valdez disaster. Plus, this isn't a surface spill, but a gusher on the 1500-meter deep ocean floor.
The fact of the matter is we have no idea what will be the long-term ecological effects of this because we've never seen anything like it before. But, considering that the ocean floor serves as the spawning grounds for a tremendous amount of animal life - life that is integral to the entire Gulf ecosystem - it doesn't take a PhD to understand this will be calamitous, at least for the foreseeable future. Anyone who has professionally fished and trapped those waters knows that this is a game changing event.

More accurate estimates put the flow at an Exxon Valdez every 5 days. The estimate is sure to be "unexpectedly" raised again.
