Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday night that law enforcement should not focus its energy on the minimal problem of marijuana.
Palin made the comment during an appearance on the Fox Business Network with Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).
The libertarian Paul said enforcing marijuana restrictions specifically and war on drugs more generally is a useless battle, a point Palin somewhat agreed with though she was clear that she does not support legalization.
"If we're talking about pot, I'm not for the legalization of pot, Palin said. I think that would just encourage our young people to think that it was OK to go ahead and use it.
However I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts, Palin added. If somebody's gonna to smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.

I would agree to that in terms of the FEDERAL govt’s role. State and local regulations on “behavior” are not unconstitutional unless it violates the prohibitions in the US or that state’s own constitution.
Prezacktly. You don’t like the laws in one state, you are free to move.
Yup
Throw in 'pit bull' owners for good measure.
The goobermint makes more money on liquor, tobacco and gasoline than do the producers.
Go figure.
I never got into the home-brewery thing. My wife bought me a kit, but I was already heavily invested in making my own ammo at the time, so ...
I'm not in favor of that at all. Pot is an herb that is easily grown, like all other herbs that GOD put on this earth. They each have culinary and medicinal value. I don't need to go to a tobacco/pot shop to get it, I can grow it myself. I'm not for feeding the fat, bloated beastly government any more - they need to be put on a severe diet as it is.
Government's addiction is OUR money. They need intervention NOW.
At first glance it appears solid, but then when you look at it up close...
Well, it’s a start. Combined with the fact that Sarah apparently smoked marijuana when it was legal in Alaska, her stock has risen considerably with me...
Good catch. The leftist media will use every conceivable tactic in their war on Sarah, most of them far less subtle than the one you caught.
That's true. I know a florist that takes a break a couple of times a day to smoke on a joint - he gets back to work & creates the MOST beautiful flower arrangements! He says it enhances his creativity. He has been doing this daily for the whole ten years that I've known him & probably long before that. He has never been in trouble with the law - he works seven days a week at his business - only closing on Christmas Day. He is one of the hardest working people I know.
True, and I would argue even that was a mistake. The Constitution definitely sets up the national government as a supreme protector of rights and a check on state government abuse. Madison said as much. But it makes no sense to me at all.
If the people of a state are already governing themselves as a state, what good is another layer of government over which they have very little if any control, and what reason is there to believe this superior level of power would be a better protector than the state government? Isn't that hiring a big fox to guard a little fox guarding a henhouse? Seems to me, in that scenario, the big fox settles things.
Better to leave the national government out of it altogether, and take your chances with the smaller, more republican state government. Problem is, you can't avoid getting the national government mixed up in it if you create a complete government, such as ours, that acts directly on all the people, and reigns supreme over all the states.
what good is another layer of government as a protector of rights
Singapore is an authoritarian hell hole and one of the worst countries for civil liberties. Fortunately nobody in the US would ever want to be like that god awful place...I hope.
God loves his children by giving them something that makes his children violent?
You run with the wrong crowd.
Have you ever lived there? My son did for 5 years. I call BS.

Iran is a third world country with major problems. Singapore is a modern city state more like America.
“However, I’m not aware of anyone in Singapore ever being hanged for dealing marijuana because the amount they would have to have is so large as to render this draconian penalty moot.”

Gee, that didn’t take too long to find out.
Tobacco is ridiculously cheap. Even with all the taxes it is $3-7 an ounce.
Pot is around $200-400 an ounce.
