There is always oil and other yucky stuff on the beaches that is why the public beaches are groomed just like a golf course before the hordes show up. Look up oil seepage if you want to know more.
Ya, true ... just looking at the pictures of the current mess. Also, that’s why North Carolina is called the “Tar Heel” state because of all that oil stuff washing up on the beaches ... but the amount of seepage doesn’t equal what’s washing up now ...
Not on the Northern Gulf Coast of NW Fl and S AL. Been here 32 years, worked on the beach an average of 6 days a week for the last 13 years.
Believe me they don’t groom it. It’s normally very clean and there is a whole lot of shoreline that would need care each day at Sunrise.
Additionally I’ve several children who have worked as lifeguards in Gulf Shores. It’s been clean until recently. Very little unnatural stuff washes up on at least this section of the shore.
Now the Texas beaches and Louisiana different place. Tar was common when I lived in Corpus Christi. Pretty rare here, not impossible, but was rare.

Ummmm... sorry..., this is not "seepage" that is going on here ... LOL ...
We're talking about what the government "upped" yesterday to possibly 60,000 barrels of oil a day. Others (in the industry) have said that they think it's actually 120,000 barrels a day, spewing out.
That's not "seepage" ... which is quite diluted and hardly noticed by anyone. Take a look at how this looks and how this affects things ... hoo-boy!
