Climate Bill Faces Long Odds, Despite Obama Speech (Some good news)

Washington (AP) - A climate and energy bill being pushed in the Senate faces bleak prospects, despite President Barack Obama's call for a "clean energy" future that lessens dependence on oil and other fossil fuels.

A day after the president's Oval Office speech, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., reiterated that his party remains unanimous in its opposition to what he called a national energy tax.

Even one of the bill's likely supporters said the measure does not have enough votes to pass.

"You know, it would take 60 votes in the Senate to do that," said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. "I doubt very much whether those 60 votes exist right now."

The libs would not risk it before the November elections. Regardless of what is going to happen to them in the voting booths.

“I doubt very much whether those 60 votes exist right now.”

Good. May they never exist.

It will happen in the lame-duck session. Their last rape of America before they vacate their offices.

0’bummer actually thought his words would create public pressure for cap and trade. He actually thought that public outrage over the Gulf would translate to a wholesale public desire to ditch petroleum based fuels.

His zealous ideology blinds him to reality.

Pundits last night predicted a short term bounce for him in the polls. They were wrong. His numbers are diving lower due to this inane and meandering speech and his more than apparent lack of grip on the situation.

McConnell better keep those 41 plus votes locked.

If Mike Castle RINO DE wins the Republican senate primary in DE in September and goes on to win in November, that will be one lost vote. RINO Castle already voted for Cap & Trade as a congressmen. What do you expect from a guy who has spent the past forty years taxing the people? There is a conservative alternative.

NRO is reporting they plan to shove it up our mmm-mmm-mmmmm’s in a lame duck session.

Conspiracy theory time. Maybe Scott Brown tragically skis into an open mine shaft during his Christmas vacation and Deval Patrick appoints himself as the replacement?

Let's hope this horrible piece of legislation fails. If we can make it past this session, I believe the Republicans (provided they don't shoot themselves in the foot) will take over at least one of the two houses in Congress. That will kill off this wretched climate and energy bill.

Now there is a chance that California will kill off their version of this climate bill with a proposition for the November ballot that will suspend AB32. This would be great and would stick a finger in Schwarzenegger eye as he leaves office. Please if you live in CA or know those who do, this will be a great proposition (it doesn't have a number yet) to get involved with. We must stop AB32!

What difference would it make? The EPA is already going to “regulate” carbon emissions by fiat, so the damage to the economy will be done without a single Democrat going on record as voting for it.

It’s a win-win for Obama and the enviromarxists.
