CentCom - Managing operations in WOT - Afghanistan & Iraq in particular ... I think. ;-)
Could be innocent, that part of town is confusing and there is an indoor range a couple miles north. They might have been trying to ask directions. The gate guard probably saw the guns and did what they do.
Yes.. I showed the ID card and they waved me through.
that was my first guess too.. One too many wrong turns and they get stuck in the wrong place.
I can see the follower on every one of those 30 round .223 mags that have the top visible.
Those 20 round .308s on the other hand...
Not much new yet -
...however it does not appear to be just a case of two “lost” target shooters - i.e. that somehow accidently made a couple of wrong turns, and found themselves captive at a guard gate....??
About 5 p.m., the pair TRIED TO ENTER MacDills Bayshore Boulevard gate. The suspects, who havent been identified, didnt have proper identification cards to get on the base as a civilian or as a member of the military, officials said.
Authorities havent said if they tried to use fake IDs.
The pair remains in custody at MacDill as the investigation continues.
True about the Hornady. Ya don’t buy Hornady ammo to go plinking or for simple self defense.
Hornady is for hitting (and killing) what you aim well at, a long way away, with small/tight groups.
Senior Airman Katherine B. Holt said the two “tried to enter the base” Monday, and when they couldn’t show proper identification, their vehicle was inspected and military-style weapons and gear were found inside, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Depends what they did by “trying to enter the base”, if they drove up to the guard to ask for directions its one thing. If they drove up and then tried to gain entry fraudently its another. If they tried to drive through the gate they most likely would have been shot.
My guess is they drove up to ask for directions and the gate guard saw indications of firearms through the window and searched the car.
I really do hope you are proven correct in your theory - we don’t need any more cases of “home grown” terrorism
....my own limited USAF “securty” days goes back to 4 years on a SAC base mid-1960s (B52’s loaded w/ nukes for 15 minute launch)....
...anyone that happened to show up at the gate (by mistake) then was not subjected to this - but those was pre-islamic terrorism days
No identification yet?
Protecting Mohammedans, like our Kenyan President, Hussien.
There will be a news conference at MacDill at 10:30 this morning, base spokeswoman Katherine Holt said. Vice Wing Commander Col. Dave Cohen is expected to address Monday's incident, Holt said.
Thanks for the screen grabs!
This is serious?
Surely you jest. Obama has a puppy, haven’t you heard? There are concerts to be planned. THAT is serious.
This group in power right now takes absolutely nothing seriously. WEll, except community agitation and stealing elections.
yes its centcom headquarters.
its the most important strategy base in the us.
My family was posted on base. Those jets were literally taking off in my back yard. Gen. Tinker Elementary in 1969... we went outside to see the launch of Apollo 11, which was visible (and audible) 150 miles away from Cape Canaveral.
Security at MacDill was more easy going than some of the places we lived, but I’m glad to see they’re on the ball, protecting families and the base.
I find it interesting that this happened quite a while ago and we still have no names...I’m betting it wasn’t Shamus O’Toole.
They’re still not saying much. The press conference was not very informative.
