That’s it. Toss Nixon in, as if he left Mary Joe to die and didn’t report the accident until ten hours later.

Honest to God...

The only ‘dirt’ on Mary Jo Kopechne is the blanket of earth covering the grave that sack of sh!it Ted Kennedy sent her to far too early.

The $64 question is why is the report of whether Mary Jo was in Greece in August, 1968 still top secret and “redacted”.

“Nixon sought dirt on Mary Jo Kopechne, files show”

Maybe he should have first considered the dirt and how it got there on her casket.

But they do depict how the Nixon administration sought to use the bureau to gather incriminating evidence about Kopechne in an effort to damage Kennedy's reputation and political fortunes.

Of course Hillary using the mysterious FBI files was totally different.......

Well that’s it for Nixon. Now the press won’t like him.

Nixon’s fault.

George Bush wasn’t available at the time.

What more possible "dirt" could one need that wasn't already readily available in the newspaper? Kennedy drowned a woman by his own negligence and waited WAY TOO LONG to report it to authorities.

I'm not sure how the FBI could help.

Inquiring into what happened and what the relationships were isn’t “looking for dirt”. Its “cold case” investigations.

I blame the voting majorities of people in Massachusetts that continued to send a murderer back to the Senate election after election.

And Clinton let a former bouncer who couldn’t get FBI clearance order, inspect, and copy the files on 850 Republicans and media personalities. He kept them for over a year before returning them.

I’d say Clinton was about the worst scum of a president outside of 0bama.

Mmmmmm. If you read the article, it was actually John Dean who sought dirt on Mary Jo. What proof is there Nixon knew anything about it? Out of everyone involved in Watergate, Dean was the biggest weasel.

For all his faults, Nixon knew the Kennedy family were slimebags.

Now what possible reason would Nixon want dirt on her?

Kopechne shared a residence with Nancy Carole Tyler, secretary to Bobby Baker who was a key aide to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson when LBJ was Senator (Majority Leader in the 1950s if I remember correctly.) Ms Tyler was killed in an accident in 1965.

It's believed that Kopechne and/or Tyler leaked the information that Senator George Smathers would be JFK's VP in the 1964 election. This portended terrible consequences for LBJ -- Baker was almost as corrupt as LBJ and had already been convicted on relatively minor charges, I believe. LBJ would surely be next (JFK, RFK, and many of us little people were well aware if LBJ's corruption) and the more serious charges against Baker would be revived and include LBJ -- along with possible capital crime charges against LBJ.

Probably had nothing to do with that drunk killing Ms. Kopechne and -- if reports I've read are true -- joking about it the rest of his life.

It just shows the sickening entanglement that's our federal government -- back when it was just "Well.. yeah they're corrupt SOBs but they are our corrupt SOBs." Now the entanglement is an existential threat.

Looking into her background does not mean he sought dirt on her. It could mean that he was looking for dirt on her boss.
