Here's a dose of reality.
The father of teen sailor Abby Sunderland told The NY Post that he's broke and had signed a contract to do a reality show, "Adventures in Sunderland," about his family of daredevil kids weeks after she set off on her doomed and dangerous solo sail around the globe.
Laurence Sunderland, a sailing instructor who lives in the middle-class Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks with his pregnant wife and seven kids, opened their home to film crews four months ago.

Oh my God! What people will do. I am disgusted that the Captains of the ships sent to rescue this girl risked their life and limbs...didn’t one get tossed overboard? He has a family that must have been sick with worry. V’s wife.
Whoa! You know nothing about homeschooling.
As a parent of a 16-year-old, I have to worry about her being subjected to the persuasion of other kids her age who urge irresponsibile conduct. I find it truly sad for Abby that such irresponsibility is coming from her own parents.
Well, I will tell you some similarities.
The Sunderlands are evangelical Christians and they homeschool.
The Palins are evangelicals and probably homeschool, given that they are on the road so much.
You would probably be more aware of her children’s schooling.
In 2008, 60 percent of deaths among passenger vehicle occupants ages 16-19 were drivers.

Yeah but this thread was about Abby’s father trying to get money by putting his daughter in danger. I compare him to the Balloon boy’s parents who wanted to do a reality show too. When did this become about Sarah Palin, what the heck does she have to do with this. You said that I talk about her all the time, really, seems that YOU are the one that talks about her all the time. And no I have no clue about her children’s schooling.
LOL, to true.
I once went snowboarding with a friend and spied a beautiful way to get down the mountain, off trail. Ugh!
Well, we made it a whole 1/4 mile and he starts with the “Oh I’m scared crap”.
I said look, even if I don’t believe I know what I am doing, do you believe your eyes and gravity?”.
He said “Yes”.
“Well, then look down there. That is where we are going and there is only one way off this mountain...downhill and gravity will pretty much get us there” I said.
Guy sissied out and I took the trail the next day, myself.
What a mistake. LOL. After reaching the bottom, I followed a road and ended up walking 3 miles, in snowboard boots back to Stateline.
I now carry boots in my back pack, which has my extras like first aid, water, shelter, etc.
He never saw a need for that either.
Woos.
I brought up the comparison because of the double standard being applied when there are actually quite a few similarities.
don’t know why you included me but there is a difference between being reckless and responsible.
Clearly the teens not included on this list which must number in the millions knew better than to overdrive their skills, their vehicle or take chances they are not prepared for.
If that was your point, I agree.
Do you believe that?
I hear what your saying, but there is no comparison. Sarah Palin never put her children in danger, not once. She never exploited her children for money, while risking their lives. Abby’s family put her at risk of death, and what did they do when they found out their child was in danger, they did media interviews, didn’t look concerned at all.
I recall your earlier post and agree with your posting the stats.
bunch of babies.
Come on. Live life. It’s fun and besides:
Don’t take life so seriously... You’ll never live through it.
He signed for her to do a reality show BEFORE she set sail..I heard on Fox News a few days ago how he wanted the boat fixed quickly because he was afraid someone else might break the record, so yeah, he put fame before safety
The state should enforce the debt by putting a wage lien on the father, and on any income the girl will make through the publicity of this venture.
And reimburse the rescuers.
Do you believe that?
It's a common line I'm seeing. It's like people are refusing to believe Abby actually wanted to do this. I guess some people think her evil dad somehow forced her to get on a boat one day and set sail. Never mind she has aspired to do this for years.
Whats wrong with homeschooling?
Understanding and conquering risk is what makes America exceptional, beating the odds on risky activities, Im ashamed so many conservatives want this girl to be home leading a normal life when the girl obviously wants her own life to be an extraordinary experience. The conservatives on this thread want to take that option away from her for her own good. Sickening.

Agreed.
I’m shocked! I’m shocked I tell you...
I had my suspicions early on, and almost wonder if they didn’t stage the “lost at sea, feared dead” stuff.
Exactly what money are you referring to?
Then you and the other poster are in agreement. The state should intervene in the life of the Sunderland family.
