COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Alvin Greene’s startling victory in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate race, followed by revelations of his felony charge, continues to raise eyebrows within both political parties.

South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler said she tried to dissuade Greene from running when he paid his $10,400 filing fee.

“I wanted to discourage him a little bit because he did not seem ready to run for an office that high, but he was dead set on running for the Senate, so I had no choice but to accept his filing fee,” Fowler told WYFF. “What people don't understand is I'm not allowed to weed people out. I'm required under the law to accept any candidate who meets the qualifications of the office."

Fowler said she even offered to return the fee to Greene if he decided before the filing deadline if he were to change his mind about running.

Fowler said a background check conducted on Greene before the primary did not reveal the felony charge. Instead, it surfaced one day after the election. Greene is charged with disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity, stemming from an accusation that he showed obscene pictures to a student at the University of South Carolina.

Something stinks about all this.
Greene has a bachelor's degree in political science and he served in both the Army and Air Force. Yet, he comes across as a simpleton. But I don't buy the fact that he's dumb. Even a political science degree requires some brains.

My opinion is that Greene was selected to be the worst possible candidate for DeMint, so DeMint can be overconfident and lose to vote fraud in the end.

I don't know about that. We proved a couple years ago there's tons of racist whites that will pull the lever for an unqualified black guy over a slightly more qualified white guy.
