ORANGE BEACH, Ala. The Coast Guard has demanded that BP step up its efforts to contain the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the weekend, telling the British oil giant that its slow pace in stopping the spill is becoming increasingly alarming as the disaster fouled the coastline in ugly new ways Saturday. The Coast Guard sent a testy letter to BP's chief operating officer that said the company urgently needs to pick up the pace and present a better plan to contain the spill by the time President Barack Obama arrives on Monday for his fourth visit to the beleaguered coast.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!
Is this Coast Guard business?
Finally, a testy letter! It should have been obvious that what was needed was a testy letter. Expect improvements soon — they usually follow testy letters.
/Testy remarks
And if they can’t?
From the Coast Guard’s website:
Protection of Natural Resources: Eliminate environmental damage and the degradation of natural resources associated with maritime transportation, fishing, and recreational boating.
The childishness of this administration is incredible.
“by the time President Barack Obama arrives on Monday”
Great, another photo-op and soundbite scolding from someone who has absolutely no experience in....well........anything.
Yes, under the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP)the Coast Guard is the lead.
Sec. 300.323 — Spills of national significance
(c) For a SONS in the coastal zone, the USCG Commandant may name a National Incident Commander(NIC) who will assume the role of the OSC in communicating with affected parties and the public, and coordinating federal, state, local, and international resources at the national level. This strategic coordination will involve, as appropriate, the NRT, RRT(s), the Governor(s) of affected state(s), and the mayor(s) or other chief executive(s) of local government(s).

Obama to Coast Guard: “Send BP a testy letter blaming them for the delays!”
Coast Guard to Obama: “Yes, Sir!”
Thanks!
If they can just command that it be fixed, I want to know why they didn’t command them to fix it two months ago.
Seems that we’re dealing with an increasingly desperate administration.
So WHO is in charge of the cleanup? Somebody better tell that CG Admiral that h can’t sleep until the berms begin to be built. WHAT IS HOLDING THIS UP?????
BP to Coast Guard:
“Well, heck, why didn’t you tell us you were in a hurry? If we’d known that, we’d have worked a lot faster.”
(in proper Brit accent, of course)
BP to CG:
We’ll be finished as soon as we’re done.
Or what?
If the coastguard has a plan it would be nice if they shared it.
So what’s the CG going to do???? Shell platforms to show them??? What a bunch of nobama tools and macaroons.
Wow, nice little SNOW job you're trying to pull on us Jay Reeves and Ray Henry. EXCEPT THAT FEDERAL LAW REQUIRES THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO CLEAN UP THE MESS!
For 20 years there has been a LAW ON THE BOOKS about Oil Spills.
Hussein, start kicking your own miserable ass!
THE OIL POLLUTION ACT OF 1990 CHARGES THE WHITE HOUSE WITH CLEANING UP THE MESS. SO YOU HAVE FAILED BIG TIME, HUSSEIN!
OPA, among other things, amended Section 311 of the federal Clean Water Act. Section 311 now provides in part that: (A) If a discharge, or a substantial threat of a discharge, of oil or a hazardous substance from a vessel, offshore facility, or onshore facility is of such a size or character as to be a substantial threat to the public health or welfare of the United States (including but not limited to fish, shellfish, wildlife, other natural resources, and the public and private beaches and shorelines of the United States),
the President shall
(notice the word SHALL; not "MAY" not "CAN" not "PERHAPS", but SHALL!)
direct all Federal, State, and private actions to remove the discharge or to mitigate or prevent the threat of the discharge.
(B) In carrying out this paragraph, the President may, without regard to any other provision of law governing contracting procedures or employment of personnel by the Federal Government
(i) remove or arrange for the removal of the discharge, or mitigate or prevent the substantial threat of the discharge; and
(ii) remove and, if necessary, destroy a vessel discharging, or threatening to discharge, by whatever means are available.
P.S.: CNN reports that on the day of the memorial for the victims (a month after the explosion), HUSSEIN ATTENDED A FUNDRAISER. Nice move there, jerkoff. Real caring.
You’re welcome. I was wondering about it, too.
