(LEAD) N. Korea threatens to destroy S. Korean loudspeakers, turn Seoul into 'sea of flame'

SEOUL, June 12 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's military threatened Saturday that it will destroy South Korean propaganda loudspeakers along its border and may even turn Seoul into a "sea of flame," in the strongest warning yet against Seoul's plan to resume anti-Pyongyang broadcasts.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said, however, "no unusual activity" has currently been spotted from North Korea along the military demarcation line.

South Korea established propaganda loudspeakers in 11 places along the heavily-fortified demilitarized zone earlier this week in retaliation to the March 26 sinking of one of the South's military warships. Seoul blames Pyongyang for the sinking that killed 46 seamen. The North denies involvement.

Man, I've lost track.

How many times has North Korea turned South Korea into "a sea of flame"?

The galvanic response of the frog leg is no longer detectable.

The North did torpedo and sink a South gun boat.

I think they are quite serious.

I think they make these wild threats about twice a week.

I saw a program which focused on Korea and examined scenarios for attacks - and as a non-military person, I have to say I was astonished at the number of conventional artillery pieces they (N. Korea) have implanted within range of Seoul. Apparently the first few minutes of anything that is launched by the north will be ferocious, Then, of course, any counter attack will melt down those pieces and missiles and whatever else they have. The impression I got was that the first 5 minutes will be messy.

There are probably about 100 people in N. Korea responsible for this regime. Kill them and the house of cards falls. They know this and are terrified of that prospect. If they were going to turn S. Korea into a “sea of flame”, they already would have.

Sounds like the ‘same old, same old’.

Meh.

North Korea is the boy who cried wolf.

I say, call their bluff.

They are full of sh*t.

They don't dare. They just can no longer be appeased.

Not to mention, one knows if it is a bluff or not based on ELINT, SIGNIT, and perhaps some HUMINT, and detection or lack of detection of any noteworthy military moves (logistics/positioning), transmission of orders, etc. I still say it is a lot of hot air, and ROK should begin the broadcasts in earnest, and let them continue to threaten through KCNA and Radio Pyongyang. They know they will be evaporated if they get out of line. They love their kids in Pyongyang, too (as the old Sting song kind of goes).
