Prowling these border dumps provides the equivalent of a graduate-level seminar on what illegal immigration really is, and as importantly, what it's not.
We know the crossers are a religious bunch, because of the Catholic medallions, statues and Bibles they drop, and we know they're superstitious. The litter almost always includes garlic cloves: Illegals hang them from backpacks in the false belief that the scent will keep rattlesnakes away from their campsites.
Some call illegal aliens "undocumented," but the truth is they have documents falling out of their pockets, literally. Examine the ground, and you'll find driver's licenses, birth certificates and passports, most of them forged.
From the Pokémon backpacks, diapers and infant formula, we know the crossers include children. But their debris is often mixed with tequila bottles and pornography. Another item sure to boil the blood: Spanish-language books advising illegals on their rights in the United States.
Less commonbut surprisingly presentis evidence that our border has become an international crossing.
As I've reported previously in these pages, we know Arabs are coming, from the discovery of three prayer rugs near Douglas and an Arabic diary inside a backpack in Hereford.
A while back, I got an e-mail about a pair of Russian night-vision goggles found near Sonoita. Best guess? They were probably left by drug smugglers.
Consider, too, the ugly reality of the rape tree, often found at dump sites. The coyotes who lead groups into the country will sometimes peel a woman out of the group, rape her and hang her panties from a tree as a kind of trophy.

My first thought was what a waste of good back paks.
(I am a collector of canvas tote bags)
So much for recycling.
And where are the enviromentalists?
One serious suggestion would be to take photos of it all, and the as many truck loads as you can haul to bring to the nearest Federal Immigration Building, or the Congress or White House. Or the next Tea Party rally - either local or national.
The author had to take a stab at Catholics.
Although I took it as he was being sarcastic.
I mentioned to a young man the other day who was hispanic and wearing some sports jacket with a name on the front (his home country/town or race I dont know) and on the back he had the Virgen Mary or as better known to hispanics as OUr Lady of Guadalupe.
So I commented on it...Hey you have the Blessed Mother on your back..
LOL He got real tough guy with me (a old chick) and said THIS IS MY CULTURE where I am from.
I said yeah but you have the blessed Mother on your back.
Oh he said calming down now The Lady of Guadalupe?
Yes She is Our Blessed Mother.
Totally off guard now and mumbles oh I dont know about that part.
LOL Obviously not so Catholic and using the Graphic as part of his Culturally Cool Jacket.
Then his girlfriend came along and he couldn’t get away from me and me fast enough.
Point being how many hispanics wear Catholic medals ects and dont have a Catholic clue.
And a photo of the biggest waste dump of all ... the one just outside of Mexico City where thousands live on garbage pits.
If you have taken a train in Mexico City, you know what I mean as it passes right through it.
Coming to our cities.
If I had a bulldozer, I’d be headed out. But alas, my tool shed doesn’t sport one.
It’s certainly something to suggest to Arizona organizers.
How many feet of fence would 11 tons a day build? Seems like it could be built in no time. Just think of them crawling through their own trash and feces trying to get here.
Well, if someone would put a bug in Sheriff Joe’s ear about using the ILLEGALS he has on hand to form work gangs to clean these areas up...That might be something to do...
Who knows, Pablo might just find his dirty pair of skivies he left there one night...Wardrobe problem solved!!!
Recycle the backpacks for school kids...The Dims would love that...We might not like it, but we can just say that it would be a neat idea to the Dims...Not like they don’t lie to us very much...
Just some random thoughts I have about this issue...
All very good ideas in concept, but they’re unable to do it. Cleaning up these dumps is a bio-hazzard. They’ve randomly tested many items from these sites and found all kind of communicable diseases. (e.g. Cholera) they pretty much have to destroy everything they remove.
Because WE Cannot have a WAR ON DRUGS WITHOUT DRUGS.
Backpacks are dumped as clothes are used up- change clothes throw away dirties and when backpack is empty then throw it away. Backpacks found near roads are a different deal- drugs are packed in backpacks and then when drugs are loaded into vehicle backpacks are thrown away.
There are BP regularly in those areas, the numbers of illegals are overwhelming. Border Patrol gathers a bunch- then they need to be transported and paperwork done. If any need any sort of medicial attention then an agent must accompany them to the hospital and stay with them. It seems there are plenty of Border Patrol, but doing things the way it has to be done takes a lot of agents. What ends up happening is if a group is found then dealing with that group ties up many Border Patrol so many more illegals get away.
“Will the environmentalist community speak out against this? Probably not.”
When hell freezes over!
Wellthen I’ll be happy to drive a bulldozer and push this stuff up in a big pile and burn it for a fee of course...
Half now, and half upon completion of the project...
But naturally I’ll be disqualified because I am not a minority owned business, and that I will not be allowed to do this because of the impact my efforts will have on the environment...
Never mind that the garbage is a “bio-hazard” to begin with...;-)
One of those moments that expose the real agenda of professional environmentalists, who insist that a border fence would be “devastating to the environment.” Really? More than this?
Use a car compactor to make the bales. The Garbage Wall could be a national tourist attraction. So we would need a Picasso or a Dali to make some garbage murals for a traveling exhibit to popularize the project.
They are torn between two totally ridiculous and competing causes.
“That needs to be on highway bill boards all across the country.”
I’d ideally love to see at least 20 pounds of this stuff packed up and mailed to every member of Congress and Governor who’s opposed to immigration reform.
I can think of few things as smelling and disgusting as opening a box of these debris. Enclosed along with the debris would be a picture of where the debris were picked up from.
The shock value might be enough to wake up a few people in DC.
... The Los Angeles Times in 2004 described the Sierra Clubs financial stake in keeping silent on immigration. The paper disclosed Carl Popes close ties to a California philanthropist who linked his generosity to his own open-border philosophy. David Gelbaum, whose donation of $101.5 million dwarfed all previous individual contributions to the club according to the Times, denied that he had manipulated the boards position on immigration policy but acknowledged that he had made Pope aware of his preference for an expansive immigration policy.
Gelbaum traced those beliefs to his grandfather Abraham, an immigrant who had fled the persecution of Jews in Ukraine. And so, as he said to the Times, I did tell Carl Pope in 1994 or 1995 that if they ever came out anti-immigration, they would never get a dollar from me.31 Gelbaums respect for his grandfather had set him against those who tried to stir concern for the world being shaped for his grandchildren...
