White House can't stop left's revolt
NY Post ^ | June 10, 2010 | Kirsten Powers

After Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln eked out a primary win over labor-backed Lt. Gov. Bill Halter on Tuesday, an anonymous White House official snarked to Politico, "Organized labor just flushed $10 million of their members' money down the toilet on a pointless exercise."

Oh, snap. Organized labor was not amused.

AFL-CIO spokesman Eddie Vale fumed: "Is the lesson they are taking out of tonight that they can go after labor and anonymously trash us and we will put our tail in between our legs and slink home? That ain't happening."

Other leading liberals expressed outrage and a commitment to keep on flushing, results be damned.

MSNBC host Ed Schultz was raging about the White House comment Wednesday; Arianna Huffington came on his show to remark,"Unions and progressives are not going to support a candidate just because he or she has a 'D' behind their name."

“Unions and progressives are not going to support a candidate just because he or she has a ‘D’ behind their name.”

The big lie.

"Lincoln is emblematic of a bigger problem: Democrats who are wholly owned subsidiaries of corporate America.

I wonder what color the sky is in her world.

No Democratic incumbent wants to face what Lincoln did. And Arkansas has the second-least-unionized state in the country. If labor money and progressive activists can influence a race there, what do you think they can do elsewhere?

The nation as a whole is a little right of center. The nation is seeing what happens when one extreme takes over control of the legislature and the executive branch and the voters are not happy with the results. Moving further to the left is not going to win over the middle and I think most smart policticians see that. They have a problem, how to move towards the center without their base going crazy on them. I don't think it can be done.

I think that (behind closed doors) their base had been made promises that weren’t keep and had unrealistic expectations. They probably imagined that overnight America would be delivered to them. Now their finding out its a much slower process and they can’t take it. Especially those like Bill Ayers, who have been dreaming of setting up “Re-education” camps for Capitalists since the late 60s.

Actually, I believe none of this BS. I think all of this angst on the dem side is a set up to make it look that Obozo is not as far left as he is.

If there is a problem, it is only that Obozo is not moving fast enough into his dictator shoes for them.

Probably nothing more than self preservation on Obozo’s part.

We have to be very cautious. The dems will play conservative once again to win seats.

Lincoln is emblematic of a bigger problem: Democrats who are wholly owned subsidiaries of corporate America.

Funny, didnt Obama get more money than any other candidate from BP? Why is it okay for him to get the money without being ostracized. This selective scutiny on their part shows how hypocritical they really are.

Big gov GOP and Conservatives are splitting, and Big gov Dems and Socialists/Communist are splitting. The difference is the GOP coalition split first after eight years of Bush while the Dems coalition is starting to split over pro corporation, but socially liberal Obama/Pelosi/Reid. My dad once told me that both parties is pro corporation because of the donations, however when it is a fight between the poor and middle class, the Dems will support the poor and the GOP will support the middle class, but both parties will support corporate America over everyone else. I think the Tea Party movement and Socialist/Communist finally figured it out. At the rate things are going the US may end up with four factions and possibly four political parties.

The Tea Party movement is essentially demanding that candidates adhere to some basic conservative principles and follow through on their promises. Now we're seeing the same challenge to the establishment on the left -- and it's about time.

The left sees the Tea Party enjoying success in pulling its parties to the right and will use its clout to pull Democrat candidates to the left.

This is going against what Rahm Emanuel has accomplished in the last two election cycles. He got a bunch of moderate Democrats to run in swing districts masquerading as conservatives and it worked. Actually, it's still working - look at the recent special election in PA-12. Emanuel is smart enough to know that Democrats can't run on party principles and win in a majority of districts. Unions are sounding like they're not going to accept that reasoning.

We'll see if it's all show and no go. You can be sure there a lots of back room promises being made.

Progressives now believe that the Democrat Party is their wholly-owned personal property. They bought it, they paid for it, and if it does not do what they tell it to they are gonna throw temper tantrums at historic levels.

The situation with the democratic party reminds me of the Discovery Channel shows about how demolition experts bring down buildings in a certain fashion.

They weaken the structure and detonate strategic charges and let gravity do the rest.

The lefties have a basic, structural problem in trying to get votes: they are trying to buck a 60-40 conservative-liberal electorate. The more “purist” they get in demanding socialistic candidates, the more likely they are to lose.

Their only answer is to resort to what Rush calls the “how can we fool ‘em today?” strategy of deception and concealment. That is basically what Rahm’s blue dog hunt was all about and it is really the best the libs can do because the voters won’t buy what they are selling if they are able to inspect the product.
