He abdicated (not retired) because he married a divorced woman.
And the Queen doesnt really “retire.” She is Queen until she dies. Could be tomorrow. Could be twenty years from now. Her mom lived until 100. I dont think there has been a case of a monarch retiring, but I am really off on my British Royalty.
Perhaps you are thinking of Edward VIII, who married the American Wallis Simpson after abdicating the throne.
Queen Elizabeth can step down at any time and let UpChuck take over. Apparently, she has more sense, though.
