It speaks well for Elton, that he’s not bound by the lockstep ideology of most in his community.
My wife and I have some good friends that are homosexuals. I don’t endorse their lifestyle, but they aren’t flaming, and they are good people other than that.
That doesn’t stop my concern for their salvation, but they are old enough to know the landscape.
When Prop 209 was on the ballot one of them raised the issue with regard to someone who had shoved it in their face, and a friendship was lost over it. I mentioned that I didn’t think homosexual marriage should be recognized as the same as heterosexual marriage. I continued by saying that partners should be able to be at the bedside of their significant others, and they should enjoy community property rights.
We’re still friends.
I think it was very nice of Elton to reach out to Rush. I think it speaks well of Rush to have reciprocated and started up a friendship.
I heard John say something the other day that caused me some contemplation. He said that he had changed over time, and that he wasn’t the same individual he had been years earlier. The term dangerous behavior came up, and I think John has seen at least a part of the error of his ways.
I am under no illusion to the lifestyle John still leads, but it’s his life.
It’s his judgment day that looms. Mine too. And I’m going to have my own things to answer for.
You can bet Elton is taking a lot more heat for this than Rush is.
