Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.
It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.
The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, Thanks, but no thanks,' said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.
Now, almost seven weeks later, as the oil spewing from the battered well spreads across the Gulf and soils pristine beaches and coastline, BP and our government have reconsidered.

Obama wanted the spill as the route to cap and trade and shutting down all oil drilling on land and on the sea.
“Alien in the White House.”
Damn!
Sorry, didn’t see it.
Agreed.
Very, very condemning.
I don’t understand why Drudge hasn’t pick up that story or this one:
Within days of the oil spill, several European nations and thirteen countries in total apparently offered the Obama administration ships to assist in the clean-up of the Gulf. When asked about this, a State Department press spokesman refused to identify any offers of assistance.
According to one newspaper, European firms could complete the task in four months, rather than an estimated nine months if done only by the U.S. Working with the U.S., the cleanup could be accomplished in three months. The Belgian firm DEME contends it can clean up the oil with accuracy at a depth of 2,000 meters. Another European firm with capabilities is the Dutch firm Jan De Nul Group. The Dutch and Belgians are long time NATO allies and as such partners in international security cooperation. To close the door on them while they are offering a helping hand in a time of national emergency simply makes no sense.
I think you are right, and this is infuriating. In the mean time we learn that Obama and Congress (and the committee headed by David Obey) are sending billion of $$$ to Middle Eastern countries that didn’t even request it, including countries intent on spreading Sharia law throughout the world.
When is someone going to stop this nonsense? (Rules here prevent me from declaring my true feelings.)
What's wrong with accepting outside help? Visser asked. If there's a country that's experienced with building dikes and managing water, it's the Netherlands. The saying, "It's amazing what can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit" was not original to Reagan but was quoted by him.
The mirror image of that is, "It's amazing what cannot be accomplished if the people who have authority care only about themselves and their own image."Which explains the performance of socialism generally - and the Obama Administration in particular - perfectly . . .
I think they should use Jurin Van Der Sloot to block the leak. Just screw him into the substrate.

Yep... I sent that one yesterday also... SOME ONE WAKE UP DRUDGE!
I believe you are correct! It does appear that obama purposely allowed the oil to hit the beaches to further his political agenda. The founding fathers were right , we need someone in the White House with “full and complete allegiance” (Natural Born Citizen) to our nation. Which obama is not!
This president is NOT interested in mitigating this disaster. He is using it in his drive to end US oil production and usher in Cap&Trade to get control of and to curtail most of the rest of American Industry and the Economy.
Ditto
We need to know who signed the letter. This is intolerable. If you want a ship with bad guys on it blasted out of the water, the USA is the place to call. Got a salvage/clean-up problem, the Dutch are experts. Whoever made this decision cannot be allowed to keep their job.
STOPPING the leak is BP’s responsibility - but obama should be insisting they do - and it should have been so done long ago.
BUT the clean up, BY LAW, is the obligation of the Federal Govt’ - obama.
Now a question:
Why cannot these countries just come anyway - as long as they stay outside the territorial boundary - and start scooping up the oil into their tankers - and taking it back to separate using the centrifugal apparatus they have? The oil on the open waters is now SALVAGE, and can be claimed by anyone who captures it.
Europe has a big stake in keeping this from escaping the Gulf - down the west coast of Florida, around and up the east coast half way and then veering off for Europe.
an aside: Florida, already going to take a devastating blow this fall when the Kennedy Space Center will be gutted (ALL employees will be fired. They can then ‘reapply’ for jobs - at entry level wages! - but 7,000 will be permanently out of work. Most ‘jobs’ will be maintenance. Another 35,000 base dependent jobs will be lost, plunging the area into an estimated 15+% unemployment.
Now when the oil wraps itself totally around the state, which is so heavily dependent on it's beaches for the tourist trade, the whole state will suffer unimaginable hardship.
But, as rahm reminds his master, ala Alinski rules, “never let a good crisis go to waste.” (Allowing this devastation on the gulf states and the mid Atlantic will accelerate their goal of destroying America. To them. I suspicion, this tragedy is a blessing in disguise. Most of the destruction could have been avoided. They did not wish to. Plain and traitorously simple.
I heard that Norway also offered help with state of the art oil containment and recovery systems, and we said no thanks. Supposedly there is a “Jones Act” that prohibits ships from other countries working in US waters or something like that. But Obama could just waive that with the stroke of a pen. He could just commandeer all the oil booms and ships and experts with the stroke of a pen. He could have built the sand berms with the stroke of a pen. “From Day One”
