For a coup to be successful you usually need the military behind it.

I just cannot imagine the guys I know in the senior ranks of the military ordering tanks onto the streets of the US.

I can, not because there is inherently something wrong with the troops but because in these situaitons everyone does what it takes to save themselves...following orders.

I understand what you are writing, and I pray to God that some of these men continue to operate as honorably tomorrow, as they have their whole lives.
