"Wax on, wax off" is now "Jacket on, jacket off," and the original star of " The Karate Kid ," Ralph Macchio , wasn't so sure the reboot -- starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan -- was a good idea.

"It's like mixed feelings. At first, I felt old. Number one, you feel old when they start remaking your stuff," Ralph, 48, told Access Hollywood at " The Karate Kid " premiere on Monday night in LA.

My inner 12 year old is snickering. The teacher/student relationship takes a turn for the creepy in the remake, so it seems.

He’s 48? The original Karate Kid was only 25 years ago. Was he in his 20s??

Yes. He was a 23 year old playing a teenager. Not too uncommon, really.

Yep. Macchio was 22 or 23 when Karate Kid was released. He just always looked younger because of his size and looks. He was actually several years older than his nemesis Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

Yes. He always looked younger than his age. He still does.

Hollywood hasn’t had a fresh idea since “The War of the Worlds” (George Pal/Gene Barry version.)

I'd have thought a younger actor could have kept the franchise going longer, but the movies love to have twentysomethings play teens. It must be that they have experience and sometimes even maturity.

Ralph at 30 was too old for Karate Kid III so they gave the part to Hillary Swank:

And how old is/was Elizabeth Shue?

Saw her in Hamlet II recently and she was STILL really hot! Older than I am apparently, but I sure didn't notice.

Still got a ‘Shue’ fetish I guess.

(looked it up, she was born 1963, so 47 or so, 21 when Karate Kid was shot)

I'm looking forward to this movie for the eye candy landscapes, etc shown in the previews.

Side note,, Prince Of Persia is a good movie!

I hate remakes

I do too.

Nothing disgusts me more than a present day musical artist trying to cash in on an oldie hit by doing a remake of it. It was the original artists and their rendition of the hit that made it so. There is nothing a new artist can do to enhance on it. All they're doing is "filling in" their CD's due to the lack of their own originality..........

Shue definitely got a whole lot of sexy in the early 2000s. I know it may seem weird but I think she was dead sexy in Leaving Las Vegas, a 10 out of 10 on the depressing scale but her with the hair up in that choker and the black pumps..to quote Rachel Ray yummo! Come on guys you know you find 'Some' trashy sexy.

I liked her more as the 'all American girl' role. Never saw "Leaving Las Vegas" because I heard there was a graphic rape scene. I don't watch those. But yeah, I find a little trashy sexy. Like this...
