Oil Boom sweeps oil in the Gulf of Mexico

The occasion Tuesday evening was yet another party at the White House, this one for members of Congress to celebrate what host President Obama called the "incredible sacrifices" they make, working and living in Washington on their perks and $174,000 a year salaries.

It was a president's annual congressional picnic and a time to kick back after passing the $787-billion stimulus bill that stimulated unemployment up near 10% and the wildly unpopular healthcare bill that a majority of Americans want repealed because it will help increase the deficit.

Since American voters awarded Democrats large majority control of both houses of Congress and the White House in 2008, there were more Democrats on hand for the outdoor fest.

I have a longer range issue with that.

To me, this talk of Public Servants is -and always was - pure BS.

Theyr’e not volunteers. They’re paid. And they manifestly sought the job. It didn’t come to them.

Yet give a congressman a 20 yr career and the next thing you know they’re naming highways, etc. after him.

Why should political employees be regarded as royalty? It wasn’t their money they were spending.

There is a front page article in the Times Picayune newspaper that suggest that Salazar has lied about the commission charged with giving the President ideas about the oil spill, agreed with the 6 month moratorium on deep water drilling. They did not agree with it although Salazar included that in his report. I would post it if I knew how.
