The distance between the president and the people is beginning to be revealed.
The deepening notes of disenchantment with Barack Obama now issuing from commentators across the political spectrum were predictable. So, too, were the charges from some of the president's earliest enthusiasts about his failure to reflect a powerful sense of urgency about the oil spill.
There should have been nothing puzzling about his response to anyone who has paid even modest critical attention to Mr. Obama's pronouncements. For it was clear from the first that this presidentsingle-minded, ever-visible, confident in his program for a reformed America saved from darkness by his arrivalwas wanting in certain qualities citizens have until now taken for granted in their presidents. Namely, a tone and presence that said: This is the Americans' leader, a man of them, for them, the nation's voice and champion. Mr. Obama wasn't lacking in concern about the oil spill. What he lacked was that voiceand for good reason.
Those qualities to be expected in a president were never about rhetoric; Mr. Obama had proved himself a dab hand at that on the campaign trail. They were a matter of identification with the nation and to all that binds its people together in pride and allegiance. These are feelings held deep in American hearts, unvoiced mostly, but unmistakably there and not only on the Fourth of July.

Hear, hear. Once again let me mention, the national security secrets this traitor and his czars have accessed and revealed to who knows who. This is the biggest threat to our survival as a nation. Nobody seems to know, or care, what is going on in this most serious of national arenas.
The media. really let us down on this one.””
Most of the old media is vociferously anti-American just like BO and his czars. The old media is our enemy too.
Dorothy nails it.
Who TF is this guy ?
I guess my respect for Dorothy Rabinowitz is gone. What is truly demented is thinking that such questions have been answered.
I thought that gratuitous slur kind of ruined the article too but it's part of the WSJ stylebook on dismissing ''birthers'' and ''restrictionists'' with misreprentation and insults. James Taranto of ''Best of Web'' undercuts his excellent writing with the stylebook too.
Not enough time.
Let's just plug the damn hole with Mac Daddy.
Good article. Very good thread. BTTT!
Don't be too sure of that ...
"ALOHA"
That’s an outstanding article. It should be obvious to everyone by now that the President is an unmitigated left-winger. The question now is whether the American public is willing to go along with his policies.
Name one reputable conservative commentator, politician, or talk-show host who is a birther.
He will be known as one of our most corrupt and incompetent presidents.
Commentators, talk-show hosts, and politicians all have vested interests in the consequences of issues they choose to take up or not. I just don't think people who believe elected officials are subject to constitutional eligibility requirements should be casually dismissed with insults and misrepresentation.

Better yet name one person on this planet that can show us the document that has what hospital "Barack Hussein Obama Jr." was born in!! Surely all the "sane" and "credible" journalists have this document somewhere.
How 'bout three?
Savage, Malzberg, and ML/NJ.
I don't think any of us would say it's known for certain that Obama was not born in the United States. But it's pretty obvious the Obama chooses to let the questions surrounding his birth linger and fester. He could easily waive his supposed right to privacy concerning his birth records, but he does not. It is hard for me to imagine that a thinking person wouldn't at least ask, "Why?"
ML/NJ
So then why don’t we hear at least one well-known (and reputable) conservative claim that Obama was not born in the U.S.? If you have the facts on your side, why can’t you convince any of the big names in conservatism that Obama is a foreigner? We’re talking hundreds of well-known and established conservatives. You don’t think they’ve haven’t looked at that possibility?
Probably for the same reason Bubba covered up his health data. Something was deeply wrong.
That is the whole crux of the issue, "FACTS."
It is "factual" that the one document that lists "Barack Hussein Obama's" hospital of birth is kept under lock and key by Barack Hussein Obama's choice! It is also a fact that in the state of Hawaii a "foreign" birth could be registered.
So who is "delusional" here? People who are looking for the legal document that lists his "birthplace" (also known as a hospital) or the people that "feel" he was born in some hospital in the US?
There is far more evidence showing that he was born in Hawaii than the "evidence" to show he was supposedly born outside the U.S. I'm open to the charge he was not born in States, or that he's not an American because his father was a British subject even though his mother was an American. I simply want to see proof. Which has not been forthcoming.
Every time someone cites the Hawaiian birth announcements or shows the COLB, someone like you says they're faked or they don't mean anything. The governor of Hawaii or some big shot in the Hawaiian state government says she's seen the birth certificate. I suppose she's a liar too, huh? Well then please show us doubters the evidence showing Obama was born elsewhere. Believe me, I'd like nothing more than to see Obama thrown out on his kiester.
Savage I can believe would say something like that, but I didn’t know Malzberg is one. I’ll have to check that out. who the heck is ML/NJ.?
