Ah, another teachable moment!
This one comes to us from Helen Thomas, the longtime White House reporter and columnist who announced her retirement on Monday. Thomas, of Lebanese ancestry and almost 90, has never been shy about her anti-Israel views, for which, as far as I'm concerned, she is wrong and to which she is entitled. Then the other day, she performed a notable public service by revealing how very little she knew. Asked at a White House event if she had any comments about Israel, Thomas said, "Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine. . . . Go home. Poland. Germany. And America and everywhere else."
Well, I don't know about "everywhere else," but after World War II, many Jews did attempt to "go home" to Poland. This resulted in the murder of about 1,500 of them -- killed not by Nazis but by Poles, either out of sheer ethnic hatred or fear they would lose their (stolen) homes.
The mini-Holocaust that followed the Holocaust itself is not well-known anymore, but it played an outsize role in the establishment of the state of Israel. It was the plight of Jews consigned to Displaced Persons camps in Europe that both moved and outraged President Harry Truman, who supported Jewish immigration to Palestine and, when the time came, the new state itself. Something had to be done for the Jews of Europe. They were still being murdered.
In the Polish city of Kielce, on July 4, 1946 -- more than a year after the end of the war -- rumors of a Jewish ritual murder triggered a pogrom in which 42 Jewish Holocaust survivors were killed. The Kielce murders were not, by any means, the sole example of why Jews could not "go home."(continued)

I just cannot stand this cohen guy... even when he is a little bit correct. I just can’t stand him.

I’ve seldom agreed with Cohen, but this time, he nailed it.
The news media were generally silent about it since the bigger picture involved moving several million Germans out of their ancestral areas to make way for several million Poles as Belarus was moved West as well to give Joseph Stalin a bigger chunk of territory.
With many in the press enthralled by the Communist USSR, and absolutely no one wanting to sound sympathetic to the Germans you only began to hear about any of this outside of university classroom sometime in the 1980s.
Helen's original political views were probably rather pro-German and pro-Falange (the Lebanese Christian fascist party of the time). Today she's just an old fascist apparatchik who makes her way among the glitteratti by pretending to be a Commie.
The antisemitism goes with the show however!
The liberal beltway media pundits eating their own...
I would hope that the lesson that is learned is that Americans are tired of the nuts in our media and government and are starting to speak up. Hopefully, enough speak up before it’s to late for the country.
I know he hates slavery and the modern systems that attempt to emulate slavery on the behalf of the owners. That's not something you can find very many Leftwingtards opposing ~ they favor slavery and fascist methods of governance for the most part, and Richard is outside that.
He even got charged by some ol'gal at the Boston Globe with "sexual harrassment"!
He can be worked on and eventually he'll come over to our version of "the dark side". At the moment he's finding out who some of his real enemies on the left really are.
Think of him more as the quite ordinary Jewish guy you know from work or the neighborhood who has Democrat party sympathies but cannot quite explain them outside of some sort of false allegiance to the memory of Franklin Roosevelt.
Time for them to give that nonsense up. The rest of the Democrat party has betrayed FDR and are busy worshipping a golden calf that vomits out of date penicillin pills and poops lines at the doctor's office.
General Patton a huge bigot and coward. Suuuuuuure...!!!
And yet Cohen will do whatever he can to get Ubama and his party re-elected.
What a hypocrite. What a pantload.
I saw Richard Cohen and thought ..GAG..but I was a child in WW2...and know some history because I have been trying to get some glimmer of understanding of how on earth the horrific treatment of Jews happened...(Never will understand..never)
Helen Thomas’s comments were not only despicable but stupid.
Cohen speaks the truth in his article. That said, he failed deliberately to mention that the event was a celebration of JEWISH HERITAGE at the White House.
There are far too many who would deny the virulent anti semitism of the Polish people.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
“The liberal beltway media pundits eating their own...”
I really don’t want to even picture that.
....as Richard Cohen continues to support Obama and the likes of Reverend Wright.
This is the first time anywhere I have seen what Cohen has written about General Patton. I have read where Patton’s troops sped to the concentration camps to free them. I have read a lot about General Patton both good and bad but nothing like what Cohen is alleging has ever surfaced in my readings.
