Engineers Say Deepwater Horizon Well Could Leak for Years if Not Stopped
(Excerpt) Read more at abcnews.go.com ...
"If the earth stopped turning the sun would never set or never rise depending where you are".
“The LIBERALS can thank themselves ant the environmentalists for the 5K foot depth of this well.
I would pay $1000.00 to hear the CEO of BP directly blame this fact on the owners of this delay of a fix.”
“How long would it take to stop a leak at 120 feet or on land?”
yup! I’ll ditto that
That was under a republican. All he ad to worry about was missing engineering data on every well, deliberately set fires, and mines, booby traps and terrorist attacks.
I'm sure you will agree that this is trivial compared to democrat 0bama's problem with the republican governors in all five gulf states.
What if ABC News reported news instead of acting as a propaganda organ of the left?
I suspect the catastrophic effects of this are being overblown. We're already seeing some of these Gulf coast state governors complaining that the media is making people believe the beaches are all covered with oil, when in fact few if any are.
Some level of crude oil leaks into the oceans constantly and naturally, and the ocean can handle it. Obviously a large amount in a confined space can overwhelm natures ability to deal with it for awhile, but the Gulf will survive just fine.
Missoula Montana. It's a place. Sort of.
Nukes could have done it weeks ago.
Nuke can do it
Nuke will do it if these jive relief wells don’t. I give relief wells a 60% chance
I give 40% chance we end up stopping this oil well with nukes after relief wells fail but even if relief wells succeed the Gulf coast and fisheries and shrimping and oyster beds will be polluted and ruined for at least 5 years
ubi vos estis? It’s a government funded fly strip.
Two things can happen

Hello What about all the natural gas leaking along with the oil?
That can’t be good.
It’s like a mall map.
You are right there where the x is.
(I always wonder how they know?)
Perhaps this is Obama’s attempt to integrate the previously snow white beach sand of the Florida panhandle.
Would that we could be as successful at capping ABC as BP is being capping the oil leak.
If we never paint the house red, it will always be brown.....
.....Articles like this are stupid.
The closest example in the Gulf of Mexico was the Ixtoc I blowout, at 160 feet under water, which spilled oil for 10 months. Estimates are that it spilled between 10,000 to 30,000 barrels a day for the life of the spill (somehow the Deepwater accident, at 5,000 to 25,000 barrels a day, has exceeded the Ixtoc spill already, according to Drive By Media.) It took two relief wells before the main well could be safely capped and sealed.
The event began in 1979, which makes it a pretty darn close example for today, taking in technological advances, to compare the accidents. BP quickly started two relief wells, tried the top kill and the junk shots the Mexicans did, and has used siphoning to try to reduce the amount of oil being spilled, which wasn't done in 1979. Timeframe wise, BP is half a year ahead of the Ixtoc's timeline at this point.
[Graphic depiction of BP's progress in drilling two wells designed to intersect the
original wellbore above the oil reservoir and allow heavy fluid to be pumped into
the well and stop the oil from flowing.]
As BP drills two relief wells in the Gulf of Mexico, we look at the process involved
BP crews have begun to drill two relief wells in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) to stem the flow from the MC252 well.
BP has relief well contingency plans in place to allow the company to regain control of a well. These plans are now being called into action in the GoM.
A drilling rig drills a relief well or second well to intersect the original, flowing well as deeply as possible. A specialized heavy liquid is then pumped into the flowing well to bring it under control. This liquid is denser than oil and so exerts pressure (known as hydrostatic pressure) to stem the flow of oil. Once the flow is stopped, the well can be returned to a safe condition.
I still find it hard to believe that this was an accident. I think it was a manipulated “accident”.
I agree, seems obvious.
