AN Abu Dhabi tower has been recognised as the "furthest-leaning man-made tower" in the world by Guinness World Records.

The 160-metre Capital Gate tower, developed by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company, leans at 18 degrees - over four times the angle of Italy's famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, Khaleej Times reported.

ADNEC said the tower earned the record following an evaluation by Guinness World Records that began in January, the month the tower's exterior was completed, Gulf News reported

Beautiful building...but two words immediately pop into my mind — “bending moment.”

Yep. In that case, bring the lube and a oyster shucker thingy...

Could Helen Thomas be the solution for the BP oil spill?

... a man...

A "man" eh? Well, there's the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and now this thing - the "Leaning Tower of Penis." Similar indeed.

I was watching a TV special on NYC real estate development and the speaker said the reason there were high rises in downtown and mid-town Manhattan (I used to work in high rises in both) and not in that expanse between the two (from, say, the Village to 30th St) was because that was where the bedrock was.

I'm guessing there's no bedrock in Abu Dhabi.

‘I would call it “overhanging” or “cantilever”, not “leaning”.’

You are correct. The central axis is not leaning unlike the LTP. Looks like the Muzzies are getting credit where none is due. But then again those giving the credit might lean to the Left! LOL!

It’s not leaning at all. The floors are level. They should have made them slant 18 degrees, too. That would have been more fun for the tenants.

Yes indeed - "architected" - as in using the word as a verb. It's done all the time. I can tell you this for a fact, since my job title actually has "Architect" in it, and it's a word we use all the time where I work - both as a noun and a verb. For instance, look here, and you can search for many other cases as well. Whether the grammar police like it or not, architect is indeed used regularly as a verb, including in the architecture community.

BTW, thanks for postidigitating so I could clarify this :).

this ugly eyesore must have cost 10 times as much as a conventional buliding, meanwhile their Palestinian cousins complain to the world they have no money and are poor and downtrodden, and its not any Arabs fault at all for this plight.

...meanwhile, almost 9 years after 9/11, the skyline of lower Manhattan remains empty.

Not to worry, by this time next year there will be a mosque there.

Exactly. The Tower of Pisa leans, this tower cantilevers like the roof eave on a house.
