The sorting out process will be interesting.

If BP sues the federal government for inaction that exacerbated the problems with the oil slick and forces production of e mails within the White House gleefully discussing the political advantage that can be gained, Obama will have to pay up.

BP on the other hand has a well and can contribute a percentage of the revenue stream to the cleanup.

I think the administration/regimes goal is to demonize demagogue BP so much that they can get away with literally bankrupting them and destroying their image worldwide.
