Newcomer Faces Trial by Fire in South Carolina
Wall Street Journal ^

Posted on 06/06/2010 4:57:52 AM PDT by Def Conservative

South Carolina's famously rough politics are testing a relative newcomer who is hoping tea-party support will help her succeed embattled Gov. Mark Sanford.

State Rep. Nikki Haley has emerged from the back of the pack over the past month to take the lead in the polls ahead of Tuesday's Republican gubernatorial primary. Her message of limited government has resonated with voters, as well as the endorsements from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of the state's most popular political figures—the governor's ex-wife, Jenny Sanford.

But Mrs. Haley is navigating allegations of marital infidelity made by two men, one an influential blogger and the other a powerful lobbyist. She also has been questioned about her 1996 conversion to Christianity, and a political rival this week used an ethnic slur to challenge the Indian-American candidate's loyalty to the U.S.

It looks as though Haley is facing a tawdry political machine. If this were a dem
the alleged infidelity would put her in the top spot!!

I think it’s a fair question.

Women who tend to be successful and the main breadwinners in their marriage are more likely to be involved in affairs. Especially those that are as physically attractive as this woman.

lol.

So nowadays any fairly attractive woman should be asked guestions about her fidelity before she runs for office?

Sheesh, maybe we should just become the party of Helen Thomas and Sonya Sotomeyer so we won’t have this problem

....one an influential blogger....

Yeah, he's a legend in his own mind. I don't think 'influential' means what they seem to think it means.

Women who tend to be successful and the main breadwinners in their marriage are more likely to be involved in affairs.

More likely than what?

Men who tend to be successful and the main breadwinners in their marriage?

Women who aren't main breadwinners?

Non-politicians?

Do you have any facts to back this up?

In general, any woman who begins to outshine her husband is going to be more likely to cheat on her husband.

As it stands now in more than half of current marriages someone has cheated. I honestly think it’s always been that way but people only began after the women’s lib movement made divorce acceptable.

And its also undeniable that the woman’s lib movement also encouraged this trend towards more women cheating on their husbands just as it encouraged women to do things like go into politics. The same kind of world view that would lead a woman to want to try to run for public office or become a CEO is the same impulse that would make her more likely to cheat.

Where do you get your “facts” from about attractive women?

Mrs. Haley said Friday that she would resign from office if proof of an affair emerged.

She just put it all on the line, right there. Her political opponents in both parties will be scrambling to find evidence of "something".

This confirms my belief that there is nothing there. No way she would dangle the bait of her resignation in front of all her haters if there was anything out there to be found.

Until all of this garbage started coming out, I was planning to support her on the issues. These idiot Bauer supporters who are trying to trash her have turned me into a "broken glass" Haley supporter.

Russ Cassell on WORD in Greenville summed it up pretty well. These smears originated within the Andre Bauer campaign. First they called her a whore, when that backfired, they called her a two timing whore, and when that backfired, they called her a ‘raghead.’ The good ole boys are desperate to knock her out of the running.

Still believe in keeping them "barefoot and pregnant", huh?

I think it’s a fair question.

I've also heard that posters on internet forums who assume that women are likely to be cheating on their husbands once they become successfull have a documented lower average IQ than posters at Democratic Underground.

In general, any woman who begins to outshine her husband is going to be more likely to cheat on her husband.

What does that mean, "outshine"? So, if as a woman you don't keep your place in the background you get a big head and think you can just do anything (or anyone)?

As it stands now in more than half of current marriages someone has cheated. I honestly think it’s always been that way but people only began after the woman’s lib movement made divorce acceptable.

So all those marriages that it's the man who cheated, it's because woman's lib made divorce acceptable? Let's see the logic- it's easy to get divorced, so I'll cheat instead of just getting divorced. Yeah. But you say you think it's "always been that way". So have half the married folks always cheated, or only now?

The same kind of world view that would lead a woman to want to try to run for public office or become a CEO is the same impulse that would make her more likely to cheat.

So all those crazy big-headed women who want to be successful and make money to provide for their families, or have a talent for business, or want to serve the public for their country, that's the same type of women as those with loose morals, or no Christian concept of marriage. Wow.

She first ran for office in 2004, and ousted the longest-serving member of the House in one of the most conservative districts in the Bible Belt.

Those darn white conservative racists!

I would think that it is the men who are husband of those women that are more likely to cheat, simply to affirm his sense of masculinity.

<successful women>..are more likely to be involved in affairs.

Is this your opinion or can you cite any research to back it up?
