The flood damaged at least 9,000 Nashville homes. So far, only 1,806 homeowners have filed for post-flood rebuilding permits, according to Metro codes department

Honestly I think alot of this is the result of the economy. How many of these folks were on unemployment, or are now unemployed because their employer was flooded out to and is one of the many who just decided to throw in the towel and call it quits. Instead of rebuilding and reopening.

I be many of them cannot afford to rebuild, the rest couldn't get a loan from the bank in this economy if they wanted one.

This is a mess.

I have to ask myself what our ancestors would have done?

It's rough without insurance coverage. After Katrina hit, I found out my "hurricane" policy didn't cover God pushing the ocean up into my house (4 miles away and 22' above sea level). No flod plain, so no flood insurance. I got $7,200.00 for $83,000.00 in loss/damages, which meant a lot of self-help.

Three weeks ago I finished my last interior room and I'm plum tuckered with having something waiting on my attention day in and day out.

For those that decide to go a similar route in Tennessee, my hats of to them and my prayers are flying.

I would never build in a flood zone. Move to higher ground.

Video and photos of the flooding from across Tennessee:

Damage was to 52 COUNTIES not just Nashville. Tipton Co had 40,000 acres still under flood water just 2 weeks ago.

The Navy Base in Millington (Shelby Co W. TN) was flooded when the Big Creek Levy gave way. 200 military housing units were damaged, along with many office buildings. This base houses ALL NAVY records. 300+ mobile homes in 1 mobile home park were under 7-8 feet of water. RR tracks were damaged, still not totally repaired. There was 22 inches of rain. Millington had 1 lone FEMA bus to take claims. NO HELP. The Navy base called in Serv Pro after the initial clean up by the Navy men and women.

It's worse than a mess. The foreclosure rate here in Nashville was astronomical before. I can only see the nightmare exploding right before our very eyes over this. Folks will be walking away from damaged homes that were barely hanging on to begin with. You can't sell a home that has been flooded out. Remediation for mold costs are extremely high and no insurance policies pay for mold according to my esteemed Allstate agent. Remediation versus cleaned = mold will grow again at certain temps.
