How's this for outside-the-box thinking - use nuclear explosives to stop the BP oil spill that is ravaging the Gulf Coast?
According to some of the panelist on Fox News Channel's "Forbes on Fox," using nuclear materials would be a more expeditious way to solve this calamity.
"That's right, nuke it." "Forbes on Fox" host David Asman said on the show's June 5 broadcast. "Some scientists do advocate this. The Soviets apparently succeeded in doing it. Here is the video they say actually shows it. And now some at Forbes' agree, nuke it.

Idiots. THey are already worried about the seabed collapsing and releasing even more oil because of the pressures caving this in (normal pumping replaces oil with mud/water so seafloor collapse won’t occur).
Nuke it and watch the whole ocean floor open up. They were already worried about leaks opening just a couple miles away.
Let’s leave the nuke option for our enemies.
“They were already worried about leaks opening just a couple miles away.”
I really don’t think we need to worry that much. The environmentalists and Dimocratz have assured us that there isn’t much oil near the U.S. so how much more can come up? s/off
As about as stupit as it gets
If they could get a nuke down the hole as the Russians did, they could have already plugged this other ways. Detonating it on the ocean floor is insane.
How is the possibility of a radioactive Gulf a good idea?
These idiots just love to say crap to hear their own voices. Did they even think for a second about the sea floor caving in on the oil cavern and releasing everything? Or about the possibility of a tidal wave being generated? Just armchair masturbating nutjobs. Thank God many of them are losing their jobs. You don’t need idiots spewing crap disguised as news. That just dumbs news down altogether.
Maybe they mean nuke BP Headquarters.
Seabed collapse ? The well is 15,000 ft under the seabed.
There was a technique of using a special dynamite (gives off tremendous heat) to melt/collapse the casing/bore way down the hole in a series of staggered explosions, apparently used by Red Adair for one, could be all those who knew how to do it got laid off in the last decade or so.
Not heard it mentioned at all.
That was suggested by about day three- along with the theory that a North Korean mini-sub operating off a mother ship which had just left Cuba had torpedoed the rig.
Seeing FredZarguna’s post, maybe it was considered after all.
Nuke an out of control oil well 1 mile below the surface, yep that sounds reasonable....does anyone know what will happen when you nuke a oil well spewing oil gas and methane...sounds dumb to me...must have been a member of mensa that suggested it....
Nuk it what you get is a cracked or cratered sea floor...
Basically creating a open pit mine sea floor down in to the that oil reserve.......one total mess
Your trying to seal and bury it, not open it up more
Personal long term I think they will go with a modified dome...leaving the dome open at first and establish a foundation in the sea floor, a seal at the base before you close the top to stop the oil
Drive in to the sea floor A large open medal tube around the well head...basically like a bridge piling
Then you fill the inner area with underwater concrete... to establish a foundation in the sea floor
Once that set up ...the tube bridge piling, now around the well head, has a top that can be fitted after and sealed.
The long term solution will be the relief wells being drilled to intersect with the leaking well. They will take the pressure off the leaking well so it can be effectively capped.
Everything they are doing now is a desperation measure designed to slow the leak until the relief wells are finished in two months.
obama will use this power device to brainwash people and said he saved the day. wow this seems all to real
Why am I envisioning a huge radioactive tsunami?
