Lennon was the leader. McCartney and Lennon did so many great songs together because John brought Paul UP many levels; Lennon motivated Paul.

Seriously, you need to read up on The Beatles. Lennon may have been a leader in the very early days, but as the group became a sensation, Lennon became increasingly withdrawn and neurotic, embarrassed about his Beatle fame. Paul kept the group going with projects like Sgt. Pepper and magical Mystery Tour. Lennon became increasingly under the spell of Yoko and lost all interest in The Beatles.

After John's tragic murder, Paul was LOST. Wings and all subsequent songs were like bad dishwater jibberish, if you ask me. That's why I feel badly for Paul now. Loads of money and no connection to talent or reality. Very sad.

NONE of the Beatles were as impressive in their solo careers as they were as a group. McCartney wrote a lot of fluff, but Lennon wrote both fluff and angry bitter cynical crap. Eventually, Lennon took himself out of the running and his output ceased. I don't dismiss EVERYTHHING Paul did with Wings. Some of it was quite decent. Again, just because Paul is a wanker now is no reason to dismiss his accomplishments.

SC- without John Lennon, the Beatles would never have been the Beatles. John was the frenetic madman musical genious. We have differing opinions on Paul’s contributions. All I can tell you is that Paul and Wings and all his post Beatle work blows, in my opinion.

I agree that The Beatles would not have been The Beatles w/o John. Indeed, even thogh I like Paul’s Beatle songs, John is my “favorite Beatle”. I guess where we will have to agree disagree is that you seem to think they could have still been The Beatles w/o Paul.
