The first piece of legislation passed and signed into law when Clinton was elected, was the "Motor-Voter Law. The first test of this law was the contest between Sanchez and the long-time and very conservative Congressman Robert K. Dornan (AKA B-1 Bob, for his outspoken support of strengthening national defense in supporting the B1 bomber)and it proved to be his downfall. The initial result was that Dornan had won by a very narrow margin of slightly less than 1000 votes, and in a subsequent series of recounts, ALA Florida 2000, the vote gap found her closing the gap and eventually winning the seat by a margin of less that 600 votes. It was later found that over 1000 of those votes were proven to be illegal aliens!
Since then, she and the Dems have controlled that seat, and even gotten her sister in a neighboring district elected!
I applaud Van Tran, and pray that he will prevail, if for no other reason that to gain a bit of poetic justice....

Thought that deserved repeating...
Bob Dornan used to spout the “why worry about illegal immigration?” line that is still popular with country club Republicans of the Bush-Rove-McCain sort. The 1986 Amnesty, which Dornan supported, was going to provide him with the answer.
After the 1986 Amnesty his part of Orange County began a demographic shift as the one-time illegals settled in. One aspect of the amnesty was that they couldn’t vote for 10 years. For the 1996 Congressional election former GOP city council candidate Loretta Brixey re-registered as a Democrat under her maiden name of Loretta Sanchez. The new latino voters cast their ballots for Sanchez. The former rock solid conservative heart of Orange County became a reliable ethnic voting bloc for the Democrat left. It has also suffered many more waves of illegals who now demand amnesty. Bush attempted to give amnesty to them and Obama will continue the effort. When it comes to illegals Americans don’t count.
Loretta's machine did far worse than that. She created voters from thin air. She then gave them families at completely fictitious addresses. She registered the dead, including illegal alien dead.
B-1 Bob could get no help from his fellow "Republicans." Poetic justice. B-1 was very soft on illegal immigration and altogether typical of many of the wealthy senior citizen Californians of his generation who simply could not imagine that their loyal (but many illegal) Mexican servants who did such a nice job on the house, the lawn, the laundry, and took such good care of the kids, were going to take over the state and the region.
B-1 ignored the complaints of his constituents on this issue for years, until a Mexican took his job by very foul means. The Republican Party then treated him in exactly the way he treated us. A very bad deal all around.

However, Sanchez is now & always a snake. Her installation in Congress is another example of why we need ID mandatory at every polling place.
The true travesty was the refusal by GOP to question the results of this election. All due to the moderate RINO dislike of Dornan.
