6 ways to get more Social Security
Marriages -- even former ones -- can have significant financial advantages. Here's a look at how having said 'I do' can win you more in retirement benefits.
By U.S. News & World Report
Couples who are currently married, or who have stayed together at least 10 years, tie together their working records -- and the resulting Social Security checks -- as long as they both shall live.
In the case of Social Security payments, the result is often better for the couple than it would have been for a single person. Spouses have Social Security claiming options that single people don't. Here are a few ways couples can boost their Social Security benefits:
1. Utilize spousal payments. Spouses are entitled to a Social Security payout of up to 50% of the higher earner's check (if that amount is higher than benefits based on his or her own working record). Retired couples in which one spouse didn't work or had low earnings have the most to gain from this provision.

Amen. Sure is sickening. I’ve been paying into the system for nigh on to 57 years and now they want me to ‘feel guilty’ for taking back what they FORCED me to give them.
Yes, I probably have or at least will get more back than I put in, but I didn’t make the rules....
Besides for being Self Employed for a good # of years and hiring others, I have put a lot more back into the system also plus for all those years I was ineligible for the basic elements offered to the working class...
There was a great article by Charlie Reese couple of weeks ago with the basic title 545 VS 300 million and he ‘scolds’ US for letting a handful of people control our lives the way they do and they continue to blame us and tell us how bad each other are but continue to hold hands and manage to ‘keep us under control’.

thanks, that’s a good one to pass around again!
but if you file at 62, you are then limited in the amount you can make while you keep working?? or is this strategy just for those who aren’t working anymore??

...yes, this years limit is $14,680, if you are under age 62 ... If you are 66 or older --no limit.
This only works for you if you are NOT working for substantial wages between 62 and 66 ...
Yep...you should see my neighbors house, and their two new vehicles...she’s on disability..(but hand mows lawn, hand washes cars, works in her garden) plus she works for pay on some sort of computer thing she does.
He on the other hand was in auto accident, and now he is on disability and working a job under the table.
Lawn is groomed to the hilt and new deck on the house...both have new vehicles as well..and new garage to house them in...
Needless to say I have nothing to do with those folks at all.... my disgust is so great. I hear someone turned them in but there was no follow up...and so it goes.
You are only limited for 6 months...thenthe skys the limit.
ah, so I could choose this option but would be dead from starvation before I could game it.... :)
Thanks, LIK...and all of you, don’t forget!
....millions of welfare ‘clients’ and illegal immigrants and Aunt Zietuni are depending upon us to keep working for their ‘rightful share’.....

“You are only limited for 6 months...thenthe skys the limit.”
WHAT? WHAT? After age 62 you are restricted to an annual income of 14,xxx.00 and then after 6 months, the sky’s the limit on what you can earn?? Now THAT would be really gaming the system nicely...
I recently met with the social security people because i wanted to know how it worked. The guy said once you begin s.s. you are lintited to the amount you make...but only for the first 6 months...after this you can make what you want..”we don’t care how much you make after the first six months”...now that is what he said at the social security office..and he is one of their officials. No gamming about it...it’s how he said it works.

All we need now is Earl J. Pitts roaring “WAKE UP UMERIKA”
“More bad news is that you end up croaking at age 69. So sorry, may I help the next in line, please.”
Obama care will guarantee that!
And a current co-worker still says the same thing;he wants to work only up to the limit in order to finance several vacations a year without dipping into his retirement funds including Social Security.
Another worked three days a week ,which kept him out of his wife's way at home AND paid all his golfing expenses.
Provided there is a social security when I reach the age,I fully expect to continue working ,but fewer hours.
I started on SS last year at 62, and gave that scenario some serious thought......but ruled it out. With my luck, I'd pay it all back and drop dead the next day.
I have 9 cats - and 4 are pregnant.
Think again.””
Where I live, you would need a kennel license for that many critters.
My divorced 77-year-old mother-in-law considered marrying a widowed high school schoolmate, but the govt made it too expensive, so theyliving in sin.””
For people that age who wre raised with tehics & morals, that is a hard choice—but a necessary one in today’s economy.
I live alone & have for for all but 3 of the last 53 years.
Would consider a ‘roommate’ to help pay costs—but nothing else. That person would have a strigent application to get thru, also.
How so?
Remarriage at her age would not affect her SS check, plus filing a joint tax return has advantages vs. filing single.
I expect to keep working as well....which i sone of the reasons I stopped by the office with all the things changing I needed to know how that works...guess I’ll need to take another trip back.
Besides God never once mentions retirement in the Bible.
Older people should be a source of wisdom, inspiration, counsel, and experience for the community while themselves enjoying the fruits of a lifetime labor.
