6 ways to get more Social Security
Marriages -- even former ones -- can have significant financial advantages. Here's a look at how having said 'I do' can win you more in retirement benefits.
By U.S. News & World Report

Couples who are currently married, or who have stayed together at least 10 years, tie together their working records -- and the resulting Social Security checks -- as long as they both shall live.

In the case of Social Security payments, the result is often better for the couple than it would have been for a single person. Spouses have Social Security claiming options that single people don't. Here are a few ways couples can boost their Social Security benefits:

1. Utilize spousal payments. Spouses are entitled to a Social Security payout of up to 50% of the higher earner's check (if that amount is higher than benefits based on his or her own working record). Retired couples in which one spouse didn't work or had low earnings have the most to gain from this provision.

Illgeal aliens and recent third world “immigrants” are milking the “system” far more than most Americans.

Well, at 35 I can pretty much guarantee that these loopholes will be eliminated long before I qualify to collect anything. In fact, I heard a story of FOX yesterday where it was predicted that if social security remains unchanged it would take a federal income tax rate of 65% to continue to pay all benefits in 30 years.

By the time I reach 70-years old, SS probably won’t even exist any longer.

You can say that again.

Not for long. Obama will get that retirement too. You'll be back at work within a year. LOL!

The bad news is one day you've got $150K (say) in the bank, next day you have $0.

No, the next day you'll have the interest on 8 years of SSA deposits -- not $0. And a larger monthly check starting now.

Of course, it is a gamble ...like most things in life.

Illegal aliens and recent third world “immigrants” are milking the “system” far more than most Americans.

I look toward the promoters with disdain, democrat politicians looking for personal gain, the illegals are just political pawns looking for a handout.

Here’s another one...hire a shyster lawyer and claim some sort of “disability.” The Social Security Administration will reject your initial claim (and probably the second one as well), but if you stick with it, the judge will approve your claim on the third or fourth try. And, in most cases, they backdate the award to the date of your initial filing. So, you’ll start off with “back” benefits of three or four years.

To be fair, there are many who are genuinely handicapped and rely on SSI to survive. But there are plenty of fakers, malingerers and utter frauds who collect benefits for years. I know a guy in Mississippi, early 30s, who draws more than $700 a month for an “anxiety” disorder. He still finds a way to work another job—paid in cash—so he can milk the system for other benefits as well. He’s also fathered three kids by two different women, and they’re wards of the state as well.

To be sure, no one’s getting rich off SSI. But multiply these fraudulent claims by a few million, and you can see how much money is thrown out the window each year.

And BTW, I turned in the Mississippi fraudster a few years ago. After a cursory check by the SSA, he kept his benefits.
