Steve Poizner may be trailing rival Meg Whitman by 26 points in today's Field Poll, but he's got "America's Toughest Sheriff" on his side.

Poizner, who has made cracking down on illegal immigration a central focus of his campaign, announced today the endorsement of an Arizona law enforcement official championing Arizona's new immigration law: Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio who bills himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff," called Poizner a "staunch supporter of Arizona's illegal immigration law."

Yeah, tough call. I’ll be honest though, Poizner and Whitman both make a skunk smell like Channel No. 5.

We should be so lucky as to have them re-enact the ending of Thelma and Louise this weekend.

And you know whoever wins the primary will make a mad dash for the left before the last chads are swept up next Tuesday.

Illegal immigration is all Poizner has. That whole supporting Al Gore and trying to eliminate the 2/3 majority to raise taxes sort of makes whatever he says about illegal immigration a bit moot.

Meg Whitman isn’t much better, but at least she has the endorsement of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

We already know that there is nothing a governor can do in California to stop the flow of illegal immigrants here. We’ve even passed propositions, and the courts just strike them down and nullify the will of the people. I think most Californians feel pretty hopeless about it. So why nominate a tax raising Al Gore supporter on our side? The Democrats are already going to be running one of their own.

Say what you want about Poizner, and I don’t necessarily disagree, but what do we know about Whitman? She hasn’t held office. She didn’t even vote for 28 years. When she did donate, it was to the worst Democrats. And then she glomed on to John McCain, and his tragic record.

I’m sorry, but her waltzing in like she’s been a player for the past thirty years, has my psyche screaming “POSSER” at 237 decibels. Every bone in my body says no, don’t trust this wench.

She didn’t bother to vote for Reagan. She didn’t bother to vote for a myriad of propositions in California that were very important. She didn’t vote for either Bush or Dole. I don’t believe she voted to remove those three California Supreme Court judges.

She’s been MIA for most of her life. And now, her first political job is supposed to be Governor of the eighth economic power on the planet?

Oh hell no... She has absolutely no idea whatsoever what has transpired in California politics for the last three decades. We couldn’t ask for a more clueless, more novice, more politically intellectually vacant individual.

Arpaio is getting used. As soon as June 9th rolls around neither of these candidates will have ever heard of Arizona.

Illegal immigration is all Poizner has.

When you live less than 10 miles from the Mexican border like I do, that's enough.

Tom McClintock says we cannot afford Arnold's 3rd term. And I agree with him. Nut-Meg would be disasterous for California.

Reagan’s first political office was also governor of California.
I’m in no way comparing her to Reagan of course, and he was very politically active and made his positions well known for a long time. I’m just saying, being a career blood-sucker who works his way up from dog-catcher isn’t necessarily a good thing, either, you know.

The difference between Whitman and Poizner is we already know for sure that Poizner is no good.

I’ve sort of been contemplating supporting Jerry Brown and then moving out of state, because we all know what is coming, regardless of who is governor. So we might as well let Democrats take all the blame for it, and maybe we could let the wreckage that was once California serve as a cautionary example to all of America.

Maybe that's what we need. How has the opposite been any better?

I don’t know why Tom McClintock signed on with Poizner.
He shouldn’t have tainted himself with either of these candidates.
It really delivers a body blow to Tom’s credibility, especially when he says Poizner is “from the Republican wing of the Republican party.”

Also remember that Poizner was oroginally against the AZ law, before he say the polls and decided he was for it.

So why is McClintock wasting his time with that clown?

If it’s Whitman or Brown, I’m willing to let Brown have it.

I know this is going to cause some folks to go postal, but I refuse to support RINOs, rewarding them for registering in our party and sucking all the oxygen out of the room, so good decent Conservatives can’t get on the ballot.

If we quit rewarding them, they’ll join the Democrat party. And we’ll get ours back.

I backed Schwarzenegger, and that’s the last RINO this Conservative will EVER vote for.

I’ll be voting for someone other than Poisner or Whitman. Those two won’t be getting my vote.

Schwarzenegger? There’s a reason why folks are referring to a Whitman win as Schwarzenegger’s third term.

You’ve made another good point. That baffles me as well. It just taints Tom. I wish he hadn’t done it. It would have been helpful for him to have named the best lesser known.

Quite simply, because he knows Nut-Meg would be worse.
