NASHVILLE, Tenn., -- The Tennessee Department of Labor is preparing for the mass layoff of 1,700 Gaylord employees. The department is taking steps now to prevent thousands of others already looking for jobs from being affected.

Some of the state colleges in Texas are starting to lay off employees. I saw that TSTC in Waco laid off seventeen. Colleges are generally inverse economic indicators. When the economy gets bad, people go back to college. However, if the loan and grant money dries up, colleges will be in a world of hurt. This is especially true of state run colleges. Texas has notified them that there will be a 10% cut in funding next year.

schools don’t actually fire anybody...they’ll say it because it sounds good to the public...but mostly its attrition and rehired in a different position...IMO anyway....
I dunno. My college got a 10% reduction in state funds. That wasn’t a fake or a joke. State sales tax revenues are down by 30% and Perry is up for re-election in a state where the unions don’t run the show.
Not quite true. I’m sure he’d find an adoring crowd here in Memphis. Funny thing is, he avoids Memphis like the plague. Do you think Obama hates black people? I mean...he likes those smart black guys at Harvard and all but he doesn’t have much time for those down with the struggle.

The title is almost misleading - taken at a glance, it implies that the Tennessee Dept. of Labor is laying off 1700 employees, not Gaylord.
