Al-Jazeera cameraman confirms some IDF claims of attack
Jerusalem Post ^ | June 4, 2010 | J Post Staff

Andre Abu Khalil, a Lebanese cameraman for Al Jazeera TV, who was aboard the Mavi Marmara told Reuters some 20 Turkish men tried by force to prevent the boarding commandos from reaching the wheelhouse and commandeering the ship.

Using slingshots, metal pipes and wooden rods they initially succeeded in wounding and overpowering four Israeli soldiers and dragging them below decks, he told Reuters.

After a 10-minute standoff the Israelis opened fire, according to the cameraman.

The UN ought to be declared a terrorist-supporting organization and ousted from America’s shores. Someday...

Your first point is good - international waters or letting another another country board. Both of those are the beginnings of viable options.

That said, the when Israelis boarded they were armed with guns. It seems that you suggest they should have either disarmed or only brought clubbing or cutting weapons with them because that is what they encoutered on the ship. That makes no sense at all.

There are no “Palestinian” waters. The IDF didn’t kill “passengers”. They killed mercenaries. Your seem pre-occupied with the lack of shooting of the IDF. Why is that?
“This is a PR disaster for Israel”. What are you, a broken record?

You are sure getting your posts around today! Keep up the propaganda. You keep conveniently omitting the part where the Captain said the terrorists threw their guns over the side.

IF, and I think it’s a doubtful IF, you truly support Israel, then take a deep breath and RESEARCH the facts so you can help defend Israel, instead of allegedly wringing your hands over this “PR diaster”. (It actually appears you are gloating over this, instead of finding a way to help Israel.)
The media, both national & international, are already biased against Israel. No one ever reports on the good that Israel does (example: the IDF had the first “portable” hospital operational after the Haiti earthquake). No one is reporting that the Israelis went against this consortium of mercenaries armed with paintball guns & sidearms—not rifles or assault weapons. Again, if the Israelis had wanted to kill everyone, everyone would have been killed easily, without harm to any Israeli.

Again, if you truly support Israel then focus on broadcasting the facts, not your wimpy hand-wringing. And if you’re really a troll who is delighted that Israelis were hurt, get outtahere.

Al-Jazeera cameraman confirms some IDF claims of attack

It has been suprising that Al-Jazeera has done some reporting that
confirms the Israeli version of events.
On one of the overnight trucker talk-radio shows, the host read a bit
of the Al-Jazeera report. One of the female flotilla members said
that their group was non-violent, but she said that on the sixth ship
there were guys who were hoping to have a fight with the IDF.

All I can think is that the world of Islam is not monolithic...
and that maybe the Muslims at AJ don’t like the Turks and/or Palestinians.
Or they are more honest as reporters than you’d think.

However wrong he is about everything else he is right that it is a PR disaster. We all know that the media is partial - but most people don’t. They see the headlines and the claims of a bloodbath and buy into it.

It is time for the Israelis to realize that the media is partial and start to counteract it instead of constantly playing the martyr. People will never see things from the Israeli viewpoint unless the Israelis put some effort into presenting it.

Seeing the IDF soldiers being attacked before they reached the deck as they repelled down the ropes from the helicopter is all I needed to see. The ship should be resting on the bottom of the ocean.

Israel should have let a different country board it in international waters or have done this boarding in Palestinian waters.

Yes, imagine if Egypt boarded( remember they are involved in this blockade also) and someone tried clocking them. They don't have troops trained much in restraint in Egypt...hmmm Turkey? Which ME country would be less "tolerant' before opening fire? I'm drawing a blank here; is there a ME Amish country somewhere out there? Oh yes, it's called Israel.

“The Hate Boat” (c’mon, sing along with me!)

Hate, intolerant and crude
Come Aboard. We’re expecting you.
Guns & weapons hidden aboard.
We’re not terrorists, we just want a reward.
(Of 72 virgins...)

Hate Boat, our pledge to Allah is true
The Hate Boat promises death to every Jew
Set a course for Israel,
We’re coming to kill all of you!

Hate, we’ll kill all of the Jooooooooz
With guns, bullets and pipes, whatever we choose.
Yes HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
It’s HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAE! (hey-ah!)

Hate Boat soon will be making another run
But Bibi promises an end before it’s begun!
We’re the victims, let the world be our fools
When all that’s on our mind is the killing of Jooooooooz.

Hate, our hearts are evil to the core
It’s an ancient story that’s been told before.
It’s HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
It’s HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
It’s HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
It’s the Hate Boat-ah! It’s the Hate Boat-ah!

Then why worry about the boat getting to Palestine if it physically can’t?

Bodies of water within 24 miles of any country are considered territorially owned and bodies of water an additional 200 miles are more loosely owned and governed. There’s at most 10-20 miles of Israel between Palestine and the Mediterranean Sea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_waters

When the ship got within Israel’s 24 miles (which happens before Palestine’s overlap it), Israel could have done what it did without concern.

However, dennisw has the best information on this in this post:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2527527/posts?page=20#20

In it he posted this link to what Israel could use to justify boarding:

How are any of my words “anti-Semitic?” Also, I’m not “anti-Israel,” either.

However, when someone does something stupid, I don’t care what side they are on—I will call them on it.

Look, if you have “the good news” that any Israeli was shot by anything other than an IDF’s own gun, please proclaim it to the world.

As it is, the only dead people are those on the side of the media, and unfortunately for Israel, they all died at the hands of Israel. And not a weapon was found on board (sure, they may have been thrown overboard, but that also means they weren’t on-hand to shoot IDF soldiers). The JP states the only IDF forces shot were by their own weapons.

You tell me how the MSM will make this work for Israel. If you can’t, then shut up about my supposed “trolling” after five plus years on here.

The first group of soldiers were gang tackled and I suspect that there guns were ripped from their hands. If a soldier was shot by an Israeli weapon, it doesn’t mean an Israeli soldier pulled the trigger.

Indeed. One article now out states that the two soldiers were shot, once each, by a passenger who took the gun from them to injure the two soldiers (one in the leg, one in the side).

But the only wounds or deaths from guns were all from the guns Israel brought on board. None killed a soldier but many killed passengers.
