Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles Unified School District [LAUSD] joined the city of San Francisco and West Hollywood and signed on to denounce SB 1070, the Arizona law that criminalizes undocumented immigrants.
...The boycott calls for a stop of any official county travel to Arizona, as well as a revision and end to any contract with that state.
...Meanwhile, Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who last week had come out against the proposal, calling it "stupid," ratified his position this week, adding that as elected officials they must uphold the law.
"We need solutions, not boycotts. Solutions, not more lawsuits," he said. "Legal immigration is the lifeblood of our country, but illegal immigration is illegal across the world."
He added Arizona should be commended for passing SB 1070 and for showing the need for immigration reform.
...Also against the boycott was Errol Valladares, member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly.
"This boycott is going to hurt the very Latino people it alleges to help," said Valladares, who is of Guatemalan descent. "Los Angeles County shouldn't meddle in or interpret Arizona law. This boycott is not going to changeArizona law."

Visit/vacation in Arizona. Frequent their businesses, restaurants, amusements, etc. Step up, speak out and SUPPORT ARIZONA! BE FIRM AND VOCAL ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT...LET GOVENOR BREWER BE THE EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE WHO PUTS THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS.
We Arizonans could really make it rough on the fruits and nuts out there in LaLa Land if we wanted to. Not only can we cut their electricity off, but we could also cut about 60% of their drinking water off by shutting down the Lake Havasu aqueduct.
That was the first thing that came to my mind when this boycott BS started. They're BROKE!!
And I loved Brewer pointing out the boycotts would be chump change compared to the money they'll save by removing Illegals from the social service rolls.
Arizona should stop sending LA electricity.
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles Unified School District need to make sure they spell “Arizona” right - our side needs the press...
Yes, well said. Our children were never in public school, except for the last two........private school all the way. Our daughter was able to buck the storm...our grandson? Lord only knows.
I lived there from 1958 to 2005, and you're right. It has become a cesspool.
Today's L.A. is a completely different city than the one I grew up in.
How about you ask our illustrious war dead who are buried in the thousands in L.A. what they think of that idea?
What do you think they'd suggest we do about this invasion and theft of American territory?
Most of em are Mexicans themselves.
The “take our land back” crowd has succeeded in LA.
Try the South Bay (Torrance, PV, Redondo, Hermosa). They have smaller public school districts and high scores on the state tests.
We are looking into a charter school here in town. Know any one know about Charter Schools?
Celerity Troika Charter.
I would have had no way of knowing for sure, but you are right, that is the risk.
Turn off their @#$%%# power! Hello Hoover Dam!!!
correct, the LAUSD is 70% Mexicans national and ‘anchor babies’ who are not U.S. citizens per 14 th. amendment.
FULA!
I stand with Arizona!
