Obama Tells Voters: Remember Bush Sees election referendum on vision for 'change'

"As November approaches, leaders in the other party will campaign furiously on the same economic argument they've been making for decades," Mr. Obama said. "We already know where their ideas led us. And now we have a choice as a nation. We can return to the failed economic policies of the past, or we can keep building a stronger future."

With his party's poll numbers flagging and crises testing his own leadership, President Obama said Wednesday that November's elections will amount to a referendum on whether voters want to go back to the policies of the Bush administration or stick with his vision of change.

In a starkly political speech at Carnegie Mellon University, Mr. Obama patted Democrats on the back for supporting his stimulus bill and other policies he said are leading to a recovery - while Republicans "sat on the sidelines and shouted from the bleachers."

Touting positive signs of an economic recovery, he also tried to rally core Democratic voters ahead of the election by reminding them how angry they were at his predecessor, President George W. Bush - a key factor in what some analysts expect to be a base-turnout election.

"As November approaches, leaders in the other party will campaign furiously on the same economic argument they've been making for decades," Mr. Obama said. "We already know where their ideas led us. And now we have a choice as a nation. We can return to the failed economic policies of the past, or we can keep building a stronger future."

Analysts described Mr. Obama's lengthy remarks, in which he repeatedly accused Republicans of political maneuvering, as a declaration of the White House's strategy heading into November.

The best ad the Pubs could run in November is one that shows the "map" of unemployment in 2006 (pre-Dem controlled Congress) and then the years after that--turning from blue (I think blue is employed) to red (unemployed). Saw it posted here once or twice, and it REALLY is a powerful VISUAL statement of "how far we've come"--down hill!

Would love it if someone could find where that interactive "map" is archived--and post it.

Oh, you mean 4.2% unemployment, DJIA at 13,000, the liberation of 25 million people who had been under the boot heels of murderous fiends, the Russian trucks and planes that hauled Saddam's chem/bio weapons to the Bekaa Valley after your party stalled action for 14 months, a president wearing a bullet proof jacket under a wind breaker throwing a perfect strike (from the mound, you pissant) in front of a full house at Yankee Stadium just days after 9/11, putting up with 8 years of idiotic and treasonous lies and venom without complaint, an America both feared and respected because we protected our friends and killed our enemies?

He had his flaws, but yeah, I remember Bush. Now you, poser, yes you Obama, can go f*** yourself.

Why does our President sound suspiciously like Baghdad Bob?

The comparison is a bit insulting to Baghdad Bob. I don't remember Bob needing any teleprompter.

Whatever. I do not put Bush in the same class as Zero the Hero. Far from it. In relative terms, Bush was obviously far superior to Zero. But, let’s face it, Bush was far from ideal.

As for foreign policy, I give Bush an A+. Outstanding response to 9/11. Yes, maybe the Iraq war could have gone a little better. No WMD was embarrassing, but he made the right call, IMO — every creditable intelligence agency in the world believed Saddam had the WMD. Anyone who argues otherwise can just STFU.

On domestic policy, however, we have to get real: the Farm Bill? Prescription drug program? Deficit spending? His attempt to shove amnesty for illegals down out throats? Come on, if any Democrat president had done *any* of these things, we would be incensed. (If you don’t believe me, just wait until Zero pushes for amnesty later this year. FreeRepublic will go ballistic, but what is our answer when the Obama drones say, Well, Bush supported “a pathway to citizenship, too”?)

Bush was great on foreign policy, but far from ideal on domestic policy. But, yes, far superior — in all respects — to our current CIC.

And thanks for calling me a jerk. A very constructive comment. Really.

Even Saddam’s General’s couldn’t figure out why Saddam didn’t use the WMD’s against us in the initial days.

IIRC, what Saddam told interrogators was he dismantled but was prepared to quickly re-start WMD as soon as sanctions were gone - which they were on their way out thanks to UN.

However, he wanted everyone to *think* he had them, so he made it look like he did, to even his own people. He thought this would help protect him, but it backfired.
