Hit men: Another SC pol claims affair with Haley (Team Bauer AGAIN, no proof AGAIN, SAME Reporter)
Hot Air ^ | 6-2-10 | Allahpundit

At this point I half-hope that all these charges against her are true, just because that’d actually be less depressing than the thought of this many lying scumbags running around South Carolina smearing innocent people.

The allegation made Wednesday by lobbyist Larry Marchant is the second leveled at Republican state Rep. Nikki Haley in the past two weeks. Her campaign vehemently denies both allegations.

Neither claim has come with proof.

Marchant says their one-night stand happened in 2008 during a trip to Utah. He was married then and still is.

Funny coincidence one: The author of that AP story is Jim Davenport, the same reporter who showed up in Will Folks’s archive of text messages sniffing around for dirt on Haley. Funny coincidence two: Marchant resigned earlier today from his position as a consultant to … Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who also happens to be the guy Erick Erickson suspects of coordinating with Folks to take down Haley before the gubernatorial primary. And now a question: Assuming that Bauer knew what Marchant was planning to say, and in light of the fact that Bauer declined to press Haley about the affair allegations at last night’s debate, why didn’t he refuse Marchant’s resignation and tell him to keep his fat mouth shut instead? Does anyone not think Bauer’s fingerprints are all over this?

Here’s Haley’s new ad, aimed squarely at Folks’s charges against her. Contain your surprise upon learning that he’s now looking to cash in with a book deal.

Update: More from Davenport. Haley’s denying the new accusation, of course, and with good reason. Here’s Marchant’s ridiculous explanation for why he had to come

“I did not have any intention of going public,” Marchant said Wednesday. “I kept getting calls from different people. I just felt like I owed Andre to disclose it to him. I did not do it until two days after I disclosed it to my wife.”…

Marchant said Bauer asked for his resignation after a newspaper reporter began asking questions about the alleged tryst this week. Bauer declined to comment about it, but his campaign did take the unusual step of announcing the resignation for “inappropriate conduct not in keeping with the goals of this campaign.”

So instead of keeping quiet about an alleged affair of which, by his own admission, there’s zero proof, he felt duty bound to disclose it right before the primary. And Andre Bauer felt duty bound to mention in his press release that Marchant was let go for “inappropriate conduct,” which isn’t at all a signal that we should believe something really did happen between him and Haley. We’re hip-deep in filth here.

Their frustration is starting to show. Bauer failed in his first smear attempt with Folks, and now is stooping even further into the mud in his desperate attempt to try and force a run-off.

This is as dirty as it gets, kiddos......

Its time for Haley to sue the jerk. Even though she’s a public figure, this is the type of suit she could still win.

I can’t imagine why there is no a lawsuit coming from Haley, if for not other reason then to shut this guy up ... or make him produce some proof.

Actually it's Bauer (with a sprinkle of Barrett).

Bauer started the rumor that Gresham Barrett was having an affair with a staffer when it looked like Barrett was the man to beat (he spread this rumor via Will Folks).

When Haley catapulted into the lead after the Palin endorsement, all of the sudden there's Will Folks again “admitting” to an affair some years ago with Nikki Haley. Barrett (via a member of his campaign) “confirmed” the smear by saying that Nikki Haley just happened to tell him the super-secret details of their sordid affairs (which nobody would have “known about” if she hadn't “confessed” -makes sense, right? LOL)

Now, after failing to take-out Haley, Bauer has resorted to using another proxy - a direct member of his campaign - to all of the sudden feel the desperate need to “confess” a years-old one-night stand with Haley (who we're now to believe is an indiscriminate, insatiable, adulteress whore), right before the primary. Bauer himself somehow feels compelled to bring this up at a sudden news conference.

Bauer has long since accepted he won't win the primary, and has been pretty open with the press about his desire to prevent anyone from winning a majority because he thinks that if he can force a run-off and bide his time, he will win with a plurality and get the nomination.

He has begun and ended his campaign in the gutter.

Barrett was ALREADY dead in the water — NOW, thank God, we can FINALLY expose Bauer for the trash he is. WHAT a disgusting ploy! GOOD LORD! HOW STUPID DO THESE PEOPLE THINK WE ARE?!

NO EVIDENCE!? NOTHING?! JUST YOUR WORD AGAINT HERS!? AFTER THE FOLKS DEBACLE?!

BAUER, BARRETT, don’t go away mad — JUST GO AWAY! PLEASE!

This whole thing is really wierd, to me. Sort of a deja vue, except the thing that it's the same as is a fictional story.

One of the Honor Harrington series, "War of Honor". The 'rats, called the Liberals, attack Honor and Hamish Alexander. Both are (space) Naval officers of no small reputation, but both are also members of the House of Lords. Just to complicate matters, honor is also a Steadholder on another, allied, planet, where they are more conservative in such matters. (Hamish is married, Honor is not). The thing is, they'd both have liked the stories to be true, but they weren't.

Later they were, after Hamish wife gives her blessing (she's in a life support chair) and when Honor turns up PG.. well you'll have to read the story.

Of course I doubt the governor has killed two men in individual duels, or has "armsmen" that would love to do the deed for her, just to save her the bother. :)

If it came down to voting for Bauer as the only choice or never voting again, I’d choose the second. Barrett is also close to that with me.

Yes, I agree. The second attempt makes it clear this is a smear job, plain and simple.

next they will claim her husband is not the father of her children.

this has moved beyond politics into no hold barred sexism. the GOP must denounce this and all connected with this sexist attack. No women in public office needs to be subjected to this slime.

“I can’t imagine why there is no a lawsuit coming from Haley..”

Because the primary is next week and Haley can pursue the lawsuit after that. Better she concentrate on the more important matter of the election. The good ‘ol boys are playing with fire and going down.

Her lawyers could present a lawsuit now and publicize it, wouldn’t hurt her cause.

Larry Marchant

.

To both of these low lifes, didn't they have a responsibility to go to Haley first before going public? Neither one of them did, which indicates to me that they are lying about having an affair with her.

And Andre Bauer felt duty bound to mention in his press release that Marchant was let go for “inappropriate conduct,”...

That bugs me. What employer is going to open himself up for a lawsuit by trash-talking somebody on the way out the door? Serial killers get the boot with a pert "No comment."

Filing a defamation lawsuit is a complex matter. Better to have the lawyers watching her actions and statements to be certain she doesn’t violate some obscure campaign law that her opponents can use against her.

The defamation lawsuit can be done later, after the election.
