Susana Martinez Wins GOP Primary Ticket in New Mexico Gov. Race
June 2, 2010
Steve Terrell
Jun. 2--ALBUQUERQUE -- The next governor of New Mexico will be a woman.
Republican voters in the state elected Susana Martinez, the district attorney from Dona Ana County, to be the GOP nominee to run against Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Martinez defeated former state Republican chairman Allen Weh, as well as state Rep. Janice Arnold Jones, public-relations company owner Doug Turner and Pete Domenici Jr., son of the former U.S. senator.
Not only are the Republicans running a woman for candidate. The top of the ticket will be two Hispanics.
Martinez's running mate will be Albuquerque businessmen John Sanchez, a former state legislator from Albuquerque who was the Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2002. Sanchez edged out state Sen. Kent Cravens of Albuquerque and former state Rep. Brian Moore in the lieutenant governor primary. Denish's running mate is former party chairman Brian Colon.

Kinda looks like a more squat Amanda Bearse, but we aren’t supporting her for her looks.
OMG your right Marci Darci
The manboobs on the present governor weren’t good enough?
Doesn’t Salazar qualify? /s
I bet this smarts Richardson.
The top of the ticket will be 2 hispanics; and John Barela running against Cutest Guy on the Hill Heinrich for Congress. Anglos are a minority in this state, so quality hispanic candidates are the way forward for the GOP.
Susana has 40 percent of the Hispanic vote at present. Bush won the state with 44 percent. When she starts running hard in Rio Arriba county, she can close the gap on Hispanics. Even though Rio Arriba county is around 80 percent, but many of those are older Hispanic, Catholic families who will switch to support a pro life candidate, as Bill Redmond discovered. A lesson to be learned by the McCainiac, soft on illegal immigration kooks is that Susana has a greater number of New Mexico’s Hispanics while taking a hardline on amnesty. I think she will win.
Perhaps Sarah will be paying a visit to NM soon???

“”Border Security
As a New Mexican and member of law enforcement, Susana Martinez recognizes how critical it is that we secure our border. With violence in Mexico reaching unprecedented levels, we must do everything within our power to protect against that crime and violence crossing over the border.
While other candidates talk about border security, Susana Martinez is the only one with actual experience taking on the issue. Martinezs office prosecutes over 600 cases related to border security every year and works with various law enforcement agencies to secure convictions against members of Mexicos most violent drug cartels. Martinez understands first-hand the threat these criminals pose to our state and will make securing the border a top priority.
It is true that the federal government plays the dominant role when it comes to immigration law. Unfortunately, the Richardson/Denish administration has gone out of its way to enact state laws that make New Mexico attractive to illegal immigration and run counter to efforts to secure our borders. Susana Martinez will take steps to make the state less attractive to illegal immigration, which will help enhance our border security.
The first place Martinez will start is by seeking to repeal the law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain drivers licenses. This law encourages illegal immigrants to come to New Mexico and makes it more difficult for law enforcement officials to determine if someone is here illegally. Repealing this law is a common-sense step towards securing our border.
Similarly, Martinez opposes providing illegal immigrants with free tuition through taxpayer-funded lottery scholarships. Not only does this provide further incentive for illegal immigrants to come to New Mexico, it is simply wrong to provide free scholarships to illegal immigrants when members of the military stationed in New Mexico are not eligible for the same benefits.
While it is critical to preserve the rule of law and take reasonable steps to secure our border, we must also never forget that we are a nation of immigrants. We must enhance our security systems along the border and prosecute those who violate our laws, but we must do so while recognizing that legal immigrants who follow the rules and come to America seeking to improve their lives, and the lives of their family, strengthen our nation.””
“”LIBERTY AND LIFE
Susana Martinez has earned an A rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) for her firm commitment to gun rights and the protection of the Second Amendment. Martinez has been recommended by Right to Life New Mexico as a candidate who will stand up for pro-life principles.””
Here in Colorado Springs, I’d swear most hispanics are Republicans. At least the ones I run across. They don’t like illegal immigration, either.
