What kind of a creature can sit and sip coffee next to the dead girl he just murdered?

Van der Sloot Told Chile Police Thief Was Killer

I've been waiting for this version to come out. Glad Peru had the goods on him which forced him to tell the truth.

(AP) Joran van der Sloot told police in Chile that it was an unidentified robber who beat a young woman to death in his hotel room, a killing for which the Dutchman has been charged with murder in Peru. (excert)

An unidentified ghost, he meant, since it cast no image on the security camera tape. But hey, lying worked like a charm in Aruba, and old habits die hard.

Thanks for the ping.

Thanks!

By the way, I spoke with my brother who has vacationed in Peru. He told me that contrary to what most people think, Peru is not your stereotypical banana republic. It is much more sophisticated. Joran’s lies and his attorney’s fancy footwork will go over well in Peru.

I hope they tell him, OK, you tells us where her body is and if we recover her remains we will let you go to an Aruban prison. Then if don’t find Natalee’s remains where he says they are, then no go. If they do find Natalee’s remains then they tell him, “Sorry, we lied. You are staying here in Peru to serve your sentence.”

“If nothing else, Joran van der Sloot is at least consistent”

I see there has been quite a bit of chatter regarding who the Dutch Media representative who will be accompanying Anita to Lima might be. I found this interesting tidbit regarding Valentijn at Emerson in Boston awhile back (unfortunately Emerson has removed it from their website but Google had in it it’s cache.) Might he be the Dutch Media expert referred to? Just a thought.

The resignation comes just hours after In Session obtained detailed transcripts of van der Sloot's confession to police.

Natalee Holloway’s father seeks answers in Aruba

Mon Jun 14, 5:16 pm ET

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Natalee Holloway’s father was back in Aruba on Monday, hoping the suspect in his daughter’s disappearance has provided local authorities with new clues since being arrested for the killing of a 21-year-old woman in Peru.

Dave Holloway planned to discuss the latest developments with prosecutors and investigators at a meeting Tuesday, said Tim Miller, a friend and the founder of Texas EquuSearch, a group that has repeatedly searched for the missing Alabama woman since her disappearance in 2005.

I doubt seriously that Peru will make a deal with Joran exchanging prison in Peru for Aruba. Since Jora doesn’t have a decent bone in his body I doubt he will put that poor family out of its misery and tell where Natalee was buried. So sad for them.

Aruba police seek discussion with Van der Sloot

Wed Jun 16, 8:30 pm ET

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Prosecutors in Aruba said Wednesday they want to take Joran van der Sloot up on his offer to discuss the unsolved disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway.

Judicial authorities in Peru are willing to arrange a conversation between island police and Van der Sloot, Attorney General Robert Pietersz said. The Dutchman is awaiting trial in Peru in the slaying of a 21-year-old woman in his Lima hotel room.

Van der Sloot told his jailers he is ready to clarify the Holloway case, but only to Aruba authorities. He is the only remaining suspect in the 2005 disappearance.

An Aruba policeman and a prosecutor could travel to Peru as early as August, said Peter Blanken, the island’s chief prosecutor.

Van der Sloot has said he fears for his life in the Peruvian prison. But regardless of what information the suspect might provide in the Holloway case, it is unlikely he would be brought to this Caribbean island before completing any sentence if convicted in the South American country, Blanken said.

“I think it’s out of question because the case in Peru is a very severe case and the Peruvian authorities have said they do not want to do that,” Blanken said.

The Aruban authorities are waiting till at least August to talk to JVDS. Guess they’re not very eager to close the Holloway case. On the other hand, maybe they just don’t believe JVDS and don’t exactly trust anything he might say.

I think it is significant that JVDS probably won’t be released to Aruban custody until he finishes any sentence he gets in Peru. The Peruvian authorities don’t want this guy to somehow slip away before justice is served. Peru isn’t a pushover. Since it takes about two plus years for a case to come to trial in Peru, it has to hurt JVDS that he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
