Samantha Stosur has caused another massive shock at the 2010 French Open after she sent Serena Williams crashing out at Roland Garros on Wednesday.
Australian Stosur is now in to 11/8 with Paddy Power (£100 free bet) after winning 6-2 6-7 8-6.
Stosur, who had reached this stage after beating pre-tournament favourite Justine Henin in three sets, dominated the first set against Williams, taking it 6-2.
Williams improved in the second set as the world number one looked to fight back and continue her bid for a second French Open title, but at one stage it looked like a straight sets victory for Stosur was on the cards.
At 5-3 up in the second set, Stosur was serving for the match but Williams broke and then brought it back to 5-5 before taking it to a deciding third set by winning a tie-break as the Australian's forehand game weakened.
Stosur broke Williams in the opening game of the third set before Serena turned things up a notch, breaking-back before winning her own service game to go 2-1 up and lead for the first time in the match.
But Stosur, a semi-finalist here last year, refused to roll over as the third set went with serve and saved two break points to level at 3-3.
The forehands that created problems for Serena early on in the match also returned for Stosur as the game went to 4-4.
The game continued with serve as Serena went 5-4 up leaving Stosur serving for the match after a game that showed how much the American can rely on her serve, which rarely failed her in the latter two sets despite some aspects of her game not being up to scratch. Stosur was left serving to stay in the match and things looked to be over as Serena had match point, but the 26-year-old dug in and fought back to take the game and level at 5-5.
Williams took the next game with ease as Stosur was again left serving to stay in the match and yet again, Serena was unable to finish her opponent off as Stosur levelled at 6-6.
Williams' reliable serve then failed her as Stosur broke serve to go 7-6 up, taking advantage of Serena's below-par backhand and leaving her again serving for the match.
This time, Stosur's service game proved too much for Serena, who again struggled with backhand, leaving Williams again missing out on a semi-final place at Roland Garros as Stosur's incredible run in Paris continued.
Things were more straight forward for number four seed Jelena Jankovic, who defeated Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets 7-5 6-4 and will face Stosur for a place in the final.
Following Wednesday's matches, Jankovic could be backed at a best price 15/8 with Paddy Power.
Francesca Schiavone faces Elena Dementieva in the other semi-final, with Dementieva available at 5/1 (William Hill) to win the Women's singles and Schiavone the 11/2 (Paddy Power) outsider. --
