Breaking hard--Jim Greer has been arrested at his home. Charges currently unknown.

Update: The former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida was arrested Wednesday, and charged with grand theft and money laundering according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Greer, who was hand-picked by Gov. Charlie Crist after helping him get elected in 2006, stepped down in February. Party activists and major donors had called for his resignation over reports of lavish spending on private jets, decadent meals and entertainment.

I seems to me we’ve been finally getting a glimmer of just how rotten to its core the national and too many state GOPs have become.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. This guy is a perfect example of why the FL GOP stumbles so badly, despite the best efforts of its grassroots. Typical arrogant self-anointed fat-cat, giving the party a bad name and living up to every agitprop stereotype the leftmedia loves to pin on the RNC.

If Florida can clear out our corrupt GOP leadership there is no reason it can’t happen in other states.

Once we take control of the State GOP - the Federal leadership falls!

I’ve said for two years our battle is only half with the Dems - our major battle is our own party and the corrupt idiots running it. We can’t change DC if we do not change the GOP leadership.

God willing, Florida taking out Greer (watch for more arrests, Greer is scum but he will will turn on some very well known people to save his own ass) is just the beginning!!!

Crist was counting on Greer.

Crissy “the tingler” Mathews was saying the BP spill is going to give the race to Crist.

Greer was installed as RPOF Chairman at Charlie Crist’s direction. Even as Greer spent recklessly and alienated party leaders and activists, he had Crist’s full support.

Republicans, for all of their faults in general, have a rather dim view of crooks and cheats. For a Democrat, this would have been a resume-enhancer.

This really makes me wonder if “Greer Jr” (Greer’s replacement when he was canned - for the life of me I can’t remember rhis name) will also fall.

If Greer was to open his mouth about Crist, Ole Charlie would be in worse shape then he was when he flew the coop on the GOP.

The new Chairman, State Senator Jim Thrasher, is an experienced political figure. In addition, party staff, leaders, and activists are watchful and ready to act against any abuses that may develop.

That would be him - thank you. My concern is my understanding from local GOP leadership is that Thrasher was and still is very close friends with Greer and was handpicked to take over.

I’d rather have seen an appointment of someone not closely associated with Greer/Crist or any of Florida’s inner circle.

Thrasher is NOT close to Greer and Crist. Thrasher was chosen by Florida Republican legislative leaders to protect their interest in having well-run GOP legislative campaigns this fall. Greer’s crazy spending had dangerously depleted legislative campaign coffers.

H/T to Drudge:

Former GOP head jailed, charged with stealing from party

****************************************8EXCERPT*****************************************

Greer is charged with one count of organized fraud, one count of money laundering and four counts of grand theft.

"Mr. Greer developed a scheme to take money from the Republican Party of Florida through a shell company that he created called Victory Strategies," said Florida Statewide Prosecutor Bill Shepherd.

Greer is accused of entering into a vendor contract with the company.

"Victory Strategies then was paid 10 percent of major donor funding that came in to the party through contributions," said Shepherd.

He says the company also received more than $60,000 dollars that was simply paid at Greer's request. In all, he's accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the state GOP.

If convicted of all counts, Greer could spend the rest of his life in prison. He's being held under $105,000 bond at the Seminole County Jail.

“There is a whole herd of republican for profit types still in power. They don't care about anything else.
I'm seeing signs that they are moving to take over the Tea Party Movement. I may be getting a reputation for paranoia but I don't like some of the recent trends in this part of the state and I try to speak out. Some people are just so damned naive it's hard to alert them.”

Don't know where you are in FL, but I am also trying to point out some “Tea Party Groups” that are STILL calling themselves Tea Party groups but are actually pushing one Primary candidate over all the others. In other words, they have "Tea Party Events" but only one particular candidate is invited to speak. If these groups are going to endorse a particular Primary candidate they should do it with input from the membership and then publicly state their endorsement.

When folks hear about a “Tea Party” event in their area they expect to get to see and/or hear the Primary candidates in that particular district. Many “Tea Party” groups openly state they are NOT ENDORSING any Primary candidate and are having events open to all the candidates in their district and/or area. That way folks can become informed and then choose the candidate they wish to support and vote for in the August Primary elections.

Once the Primary election is over, that is the time for the Tea Party groups to come together and support the conservative candidate over the Socialist candidate.

I’m cautiously optimistic the real winds of change are ablowin.

The fact is the GOP has not been a credible opponent of the Demrat Party for at least a couple decades now. Worse, it has become an active adjunct of the Demrat Party.

The opposition vacuum will be filled one way or the other. Either conservatives regain control of the party or a new party will form. It really is just that simple.

True conservatives understand that voting for RINOs to keep demrats out of office is no different than voting for demrats.
