I can plug leak, says NY genius
NY Post ^ | June 2, 2010 | KIERAN CROWLEY and JEREMY OLSHAN

BP's engineers can't stop the gushing oil spill, but a young genius from Long Island says she found the solution in less time than it takes most people to finish a crossword puzzle.

Since the "top kill," "junk shot" and "top hat" techniques failed to end the environmental nightmare, Alia Sabur -- who started her engineering Ph.D. at age 14 -- is pushing for a more radical idea.

The Northport native, who started reading before she could walk and who at 18 broke a 300-year-old record to become the youngest-ever college professor, proposes surrounding a pipe with deflated automobile tires, inserting it into the leaking riser, and then inflating the wheels to form a seal.

She calls the plan the "seabed retread."

"It's not completely out there, considering that tires are used for everything and they're expected to withstand a lot," Sabur, 21, told The Post.

In the article titled "Top PR firm for BP tied to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel" there are embedded links to multiple sources.

In the article titled "Bombshell expose'. The real reason the oil still flows into the Gulf of Mexico."> are you refuting NALCO is not located in Chicago or does not make dispersments, is not associated with UChicago Argonne program or that Buffet is not associated with NALCO?

Have any NALCO products been used as of yet?

When that happens...I will say you are on to something.

I know about the $$$ to Obama from BP.....Big Corp's, give Big $$$ to politicians....Nothing new there...

What advantage in your mind is it for BP to NOT fix the leak?

So...why do you continue to post the same post all over FR?

So, who is the Democrat Party operative who is telling the thousands of men working on plugging this leak that they aren’t allowed to do anything that will work, and why hasn’t at least one of thosed thousands of men talked to the press?

You’d need a bunch. I’m not sure what the logistical aspects of uning cryogens under those conditions are.

Yeah, I know why submarines get crushed at crush depth. What I don’t understand is how a tire or tube can possibly hold air at 5000 feett when a titanium structure holding air will crush at 4265 feet?

Some have suggested inflating the tube with liquid. Okay, fine. But tubes eventually leak. They don’t hold air forever. So even if one could inflate a tube with liquid, what mechanism is going to maintain the constant pressure necessary to keep the tube from getting crushed?

Why not just use the surrounding sea water? (No, I’m not being a smart @$$. It’s a real question. I’m just a computer geek.)

I have no idea, but I think from what I have read that they relied totally on the auto shut down systems.

From your name, I would guess that you write code.

Before I retired, I sold equipment, some of it designed by my empoyees, that was operated totally by computers.

On no machine would I allow a design that did not include a mechanical back up.

So your insticts are correct. In some manner, there should have been a mechanical device located upstream of any possible pipe failure.

Have any NALCO products been used as of yet?

Can you read? From the article: "NALCO says they are using older and newer versions of Corexit in the Gulf.. (Why would you need a newer version, if the old one was fine?)"

When that happens...I will say you are on to something.

You would have stated it earlier if you bothered to actually read that article.

So...why do you continue to post the same post all over FR?

Why do you refuse to read the articles?

Okay.....I read some..and looked around some. And I admit I jumped the gun...and didn't believe you. Not the first time I was wrong....

I'm not wrapping my head in tin foil just yet..and say the leak was planned, and then attempted s l o w l y to fix/plug...to advantage Buffet, Soros, Strong.et al....but it's interesting. To say the least...

My apologies....

Soros doesn't appear to have enough shares to matter...but Buffet does. And it appears insiders didn't load up either.

Interesting name...and city. Geesh.......but according to stock price..unless they bot cheaper..they are underh20 at the moment.

EPA stopped them???

Anyway..thank you for educating me.

Again..sorry for doubting you. If the stock goes up big time...we will know more....I guess.

FRegards,

I don’t think there is any kind of conspiracy. I think people are doing their best to plug the leak and this situation is not profiting anybody.

I think BP just wants the pain to end.

I think the Obama cronies are running for the tall grass on this one.

And I think Obama is just trying to remember the Safe Word. I think it’s “PALAMINO”...

I suggested freezing it a few days ago. But there’s the risk of ice further fracturing the pipe.

There certainly are some interesting connections..

Our "Representatives" are not really looking out for us...they are looking out for themselves and their friends.

Well surrounding seawater would equalize it suppose, but think of it like filling a balloon with water, and it not push back equally against all sides like a gas would.

And, what do I know; I’m a computer geek too.

“I suspect that her college was trying to get some PR by admitting such a young person.”

DEFINITELY. There is NO WAY a major college will make someone without a PhD a full professor.

“Was she singularly focused on the phd? I imagine the people you know who got theirs started when, in their mid 20’s? Already grown up.”

The people that I know who get their PhD’s are singularly focused - or else they fail (which was the case for some of the other people that I know). She should not be a ‘professor’ as she demeans the term, and she should not call herself a PhD on her website (with a coded disclaimers), as that is simply DISHONEST.
