Blame Vatican 2. That’s the root of the problem.
Vatican II wasn’t the problem, the ABUSES of those who wanted the Church to change to suit themselves, were the problem. The Jesuits were part of that, but there were plenty of others who made changes in the “Spirit of Vatican II”, that caused massive confusion. Many were priests, and others were nuns and laypeople in charge of Religious Education. Because of their changes in curriculum, at least two generations of Catholics are woefully ignorant of their faith.
