Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) have called on the Department of Homeland Security to sever its ties with Arizona police in response to the state's new immigration enforcement law.
Calling Arizona's recently-enacted law requiring police to question and verify the citizenship of anyone they reasonably suspect to be an illegal immigrant "appaling," three leaders of the Hispanic Caucus wrote Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to demand the termination of its immigration-enforcement partnerships with law enforcement entities in the state.
“The federal government should not be an accessory to the unconstitutional actions of the Arizona state government,” Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) said in a statement. “By continuing to work with Arizona police departments operating under SB 1070, the Department is implicitly condoning the shameful tactics authorized by the new law."
Roybal-Allard was joined in signing the letter by CHC Chairwoman Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) and Immigration Task Force Chairman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.).
"While we applaud your recent statement opposing the new law, we ask that the Department of Homeland Security immediately suspend its 287(g) and Secure Communities programs in Arizona," the letter states.
The 287(g) and Secure Communities programs are database-sharing agreements that give local law enforcement agencies instant access to federal immigration databases. According to information provided by Roybal-Allard's office, DHS currently has a total of 13 such agreements with jurisdictions throughout Arizona.
DHS has maintained that it is studying the civil rights implications of the Arizona law, which will inform the government's actions going forward.
They better be carefull. If the other states see the feds cutting ties, they’ll enact laws that get them punished in the same manner.
And by what authority do we have racially and ethnically exclusionary caucuses operating on taxpayers' property?

Depends on your definition I guess. It is possible to be both white and Hispanic. To the best of my knowledge, non-Hispanic whites are not welcome.
A few years back, Rep. Steve Cohen (RAT-TN) and Rep. Joseph Cao (R-LA) tried to join the Congressional Black Caucus. Both represent heavily black districts. They were denied by reason of skin color ... Cohen is white and Cao is Asian.
That this goes on in Congress of all places is outrageous. You cant discriminate like this anywhere else that receives a penny in federal funds, but in Congress, nooooooo problema.
These people couldn’t do more to force states to secede than if they passed a resolution requiring it. They are completely brain dead. The majority of the country want illegals gone but they keep acting as if somehow the majority are for illegals. The S is about to HTF and they are to stupid to know it, they think it is business as usual and that if they scream racist loud enough the white people will sit down and shut up. That isn’t going to happen anymore.

Every time a hispanic group reacts in knee-jerk fashion to an assertion of immigration law and border security, they are de facto admitting that the vast majority of illegals are mexicans. However, anyone non-hispanic who points that out is a “racist.”

I love how they claim SB1070 is driving hysterics when they’re the biggest drivers of race-baiting and hysterics of all.
No great loss, really. DHS has done next to nothing to stop the illegal alien invasion. The intentional failure of the federal government to secure the borders is both dangerous and treasonous. Every border state had better follow the Arizona example if they want to regain control of their own state. I’m all for it.
Hispanic caucus, Black caucus...not racist. How about a White caucus?
