Minutes after Obama came out and called for punishment of those responsible for the 'death and destruction' in the gulf BP, which was in the middle of cutting the broken riser pipe, stopped. One ROV was taken back to the surface, the cutting claw was removed from the broken riser pipe and now all camera views show no activity.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

When will the Reuters editor figure out this situation is not a “spill?” Call it a catastrophe, eruption, gusher, disaster, etc.

Additionally, the Justice Department could pursue other traditional charges if they find the companies made false statements or obstructed the investigation.
I was wondering what the charge would be. Apparently, the Justice Department will demand all sorts of evidence that isn't really needed to understand what we already know happened and then make a charge of obstruction for not providing every document created by the company over the last few decades.

Market tanked in the afternoon on the Israeli warplanes being fired on by Lebanon and the damage done to the oil space by Obama.
As far as accidents go this does not rise up to the level of a drunk driver running someone over. If the market deems that the administration can punish companies with criminal investigations on a whim then prices will reflect that fact. The administration can once more complain about corporations not hiring as they let people go. He hurts the markets, the markets will hurt the economy. Its not planned, its not malice, its just how they work.

LAME SPIN

Will Hussein give back all his BP-related CAMPAIGN donations? Will Hussein appoint a special prosecutor to investigate BP's ties to the Interior Department and his administration granting of free passes to BP? Will Hussein stop fundraising and golfing and guffawing it up with athletic teams while this leak continues??

Well this is one way of keeping the public from knowing what happened. I wonder how badly that Holder and Obama will screw this up.

Do these Einsteins realize that the “B” in BP stands for British? I’ll bet the whole BP executive team is on the way to the New Orleans airport as we speak. They know what happened to Union Carbide in India.

Won't be long before this Administration will be putting everyone who works for BP and Trans-ocean in jail.

The government geniuses at work - BP stock in the toilet - no incentive to fix a damn thing.

At this point the only thing that could get any action is throwing the top BP brass in jail...just sayin’..

One thing at a time. First, get the leak under control, then do whatever it is that Holder does! PS:

Quit calling it a "spill"!

From the UK - I was wondering how the Bush administration would have dealt with this?

I think it would have been something like “we will look at the legal issues in due course, but right now we are focused on helping BP stop the flow of oil, getting the environment cleaned up, and getting people back to their work and rebuilding the local economy.”

That IMHO would be sensible.

These clowns aren’t very bright, This will get to the point where BP will have no choice being beat over the head constantly by them to just tell the gov’t we aren’t doing anything over and above trying to cap the well. If its the admins aim to file charges against BP then BP will just dummy up and tell them to charge us with a crime and we want to talk to our lawyers.
